Today we’d like to introduce you to Lauren Allan Baughman.
Hi Lauren, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I worked in event planning and marketing for seven years, and social media was always a part of my role.
In 2017, I started a travel blog called The To-Go List – www.thetogolist.com. Through the blog and social media, I provide travel itineraries and inspiration and have grown a loyal following of fellow travel lovers. In March 2020, I was laid off from my full-time job due to the pandemic.
Since I couldn’t travel, I put my blog on hold and decided to start a social media management company. Starting a business during a pandemic might sound crazy, but I knew that businesses needed to quickly increase their online presence, and I wanted to help. I was able to showcase The To-Go List as part of my portfolio, and in May 2020, I founded Roots & Wings Co., a boutique social media management company dedicated to helping small businesses.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Starting a business in the middle of a global pandemic definitely didn’t come without its challenges! There was an added layer of difficulty even in things such as filing paperwork and opening a new bank account.
In addition, Roots & Wings Co. is dedicated to helping small businesses, but so many small businesses were struggling with their existing financial obligations that partnering with a new vendor wasn’t on their radar. Thankfully, we have still been able to grow very quickly and have several amazing clients!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Roots & Wings Co?
Roots & Wings Co. is a boutique social media management company. We focus on helping small businesses grow through Instagram and Facebook marketing. We offer custom packages so that as digital marketing shifts, we can shift alongside it and continue to work with our clients.
What sets us apart is our flexibility. If a client needs video footage, we’re able to take it for them. If they have a promotion coming up, we’ll design their ad. We don’t nickel and dime our services. I’m so proud of being able to launch Roots & Wings Co. during the pandemic. I think that every time we have a prospective client ask how we got started, they’re immediately reassured that we can handle anything.
We recently launched a virtual assistance service after finding that several of our clients needed help with additional marketing tasks that didn’t necessarily fit into the social media realm. Again, we adapt to what clients need, and not the other way around.
How do you think about happiness?
Helping and inspiring people. It makes me feel good knowing that I made a difference in someone’s life or made something easier.
