Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth Dixon.
Hi Elizabeth, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I moved to Texas based off of a psychic reading that would change my life forever. I was ready for a big change, so I packed up my car and drove here from Seattle, WA. It was not a mistake, although it felt like it shortly after I arrived and reality set in. I would go through yet another spiritual transformation and find my way and myself in Central Texas. I decided that the city life wasn’t for me anymore and I moved to a small cabin in the countryside of San Marcos, TX. With this plunge into the unknown, I started a business venture that would alter my entire existence on this planet. I was working full time when I started Altar Space, my crystal pop-up shop, but within six months, the Universe would take my so-called security (my “real job”) from me and push me into a life way more satisfying than I had ever known. I started my business with $700 that was actually a refund from an insurance company. I set off on my adventure and I do not regret it for a second. There are times that are scary but something keeps me focused, maybe the magic of it all. Starting this business and growing it has been the biggest act of self-love. I have to keep this thing going because it has become an extension of myself. When the pandemic hit- I thought I would lose everything I had been working for.
But that’s actually when I was pushed even further outside my comfort zone and worked all day and night to become a success and… actually thrive more than I ever had. I believe this is because I have found my soul’s work, what I was meant to do with my time as a human being. I am also a certified life coach and reiki master. I can now see how all of the pieces fit together so perfectly to allow myself to live in my authenticity. I had never believed in myself before. It didn’t happen overnight. I started this journey of self-discovery over a decade ago when I confronted my addiction to alcohol and I have been sober ever since. Believing that I am worthy to share my gifts with the world is a big part of why I show up and do the work I do. Today, I can say with 100% honesty, that I love who I am and my role in other people’s lives. It is infinitely fulfilling to have open, honest communication with my clients, customers and friends. They are the reason that I am able to be me today and I am forever grateful. Today, I rent a work studio downtown San Marcos where I prep for all my markets, take crystal shopping appointments, curate workshops, retreats, and moon ceremonies. Most of these events are held in Austin. I love expanding my community and meeting other seekers along their path. My motto is: Crystals are the Gateway Drug to Spirituality. I know that the crystals call people to me so that we may connect and enhance each other’s lives.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has not always been smooth, no. I work overtime every week and I travel long distances to gem shows throughout the year to hand pick all of my crystal inventory. I started Altar Space at the beginning of 2019, when I was 34. My mind is fully passionate and won’t let up but finding my true calling in my mid-thirties has its physical challenges. There are never enough hours or enough energy in the day. As I am expanding, I am quickly realizing that I will soon need to hire help to move to the next level and be able to grow my business. What can often get the best of me is self-doubt or holding myself to ridiculous standards. Thankfully I have an amazing support system of friends that remind me to go back inward and continue to live magically. I work with the Law of Attraction and manifestation to create my reality. The “down” time is just as important as the hustle. I just have to remember this!
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Altar Space?
Altar Space is a metaphysical pop-up shop that offers mostly crystals, but also pendulums, books, oils, reiki energy healing and spiritual guidance sessions. I am almost done building a tiny mobile shop that I hope to open up this summer (2021) somewhere close by in a long term parking spot! What sets my business apart from the others is that I offer one-on-one crystal consultations, classes/retreats where I discuss crystals and the chakra system, private reiki “parties”, and so much more! I like to do anything involving magic and empowering women. I am still expanding my offerings and always open to suggestions. I’m pretty proud of my contributions to The Witches Magazine based in the UK. It’s exciting to connect with other people living magically in other parts of the world, especially during a pandemic when life can feel like there are walls all around you. I’d like the readers to know that I’d like to hear from you! Feel free to reach out on Instagram or send me an email.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
There has been a global spiritual “waking up” happening recently in the U.S. (and since the 70’s) as we have just entered the Age of Aquarius a few months back. This is not a trend, whether they know it or not, people are feeling this shift on a soul level! People are shedding old patterns and getting tired of being trapped in ways of thinking that are no longer serving them. I’m all for this! I believe that we will see more and more healers showing up to do their work to help others heal themselves. This is a time to use our voices and it is safe because the general population is starting to open their minds and try new things as they realize that there is much more to explore beyond the physical realm. I know this is just the beginning for Altar Space. My company will expand and transform many times as I do as an individual.
