Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Givens.
Hi Victoria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am a board-certified facial plastic surgeon focusing exclusively on plastic and reconstructive surgery of the face and neck in addition to non-surgical rejuvenation of the skin and hair for total regenerative wellness at my private practice Givens Facial Plastic Surgery in Austin, Texas.
Born and raised in Houma, Louisiana, I recognized my call to the field of medicine early—seven years old to be exact. I graduated Valedictorian of my high school and was recruited by the illustrious Louisiana State University (LSU) for undergraduate training. While completing my pre-medical studies, I represented LSU and the Southeastern Conference (SEC) as a Division I Collegiate Athlete in the sport of Swimming — earning several honors and titles including NCAA Qualifier, First-Team All-SEC, LSU Academic Excellence Scholar Athlete, and the LSU Athletic Director’s Cup for Academic Excellence. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Biological Sciences and Italian Foreign Language before going on to earn my MD from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center-New Orleans (LSUHSC-NOLA). I was asked to remain at LSUHSC-NOLA to complete an extensive five-year residency with the Department of Otolaryngology/ENT – Head & Neck Surgery. Following my surgical residency, I was selected for the prestigious American Academy of Facial Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery Fellowship under the direction of the world-renowned Dr. Stephen W. Perkins. As a nationally recognized industry leader in regenerative therapy and respected member of the surgical community, I enjoy educating and presenting my work and published research at both national and international aesthetic conferences.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Branding and launching a new cosmetic practice always presents its own set of unique challenges. I opened Givens Facial Plastic Surgery in a city that I am not from during the heart of COVID-19. However, I was very intentional with my business decisions. I chose Austin, Texas pre-pandemic as it had explosive growth and economic expansion—a perfect recipe for success for a budding aesthetic practice. In addition, the Westlake Hills region is a prime central location of Austin for a plastic surgery clients.
New practices are not immediately overwhelmed with patients within the first year, which I was prepared for. I used this time period to gain traction in the community, spend extra time with my established clientele, and turn my practice into a well-oiled machine. Hiring the right ancillary staff, building trust with patients, and providing exceptional results will quickly elevate your practice.
