Life & Work with Victoria Mason

Today we’d like to introduce you to Victoria Mason.

Hi Victoria, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Writing and food have always been my favorite hobbies. I don’t remember a time where I wasn’t carrying a journal around, jotting down stories or writing about my day. I started a blog in college for a travel writing class and absolutely loved exploring new cities and sharing my experiences through writing. (I’m pretty sure only my family and teacher really followed along with that.)

In 2019, living in Pittsburgh as a young 20-something, I was brunch-obsessed. Pittsburgh didn’t have a really big brunch scene and there weren’t a ton of articles about the best brunch spots in the city. I was in a customer service role at my day-job and in desperate need of a creative outlet, so I launched a blog dedicated to brunch to fill the gap and get back into my passions.

For a while, it was just a fun way for me to take pictures and write.

When the pandemic happened, I started taking my blog more seriously. I tried to share as much information as I could about local restaurants to-go menus, outdoor dining, etc. Blogging and sharing them on Instagram was one of the only ways I knew how to support my favorite businesses. At that time, people were also getting back into the kitchen and getting creative, so I shared fun recipes. Personally, I was going stir-crazy in quarantine and the only thing that kept me sane was sharing restaurants and recipes while keeping up with the community on social media.

Through Instagram, I met a ton of people in the food community, which helped me evolve and grow.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
There have definitely been some ups and downs.

One of the biggest challenges was moving from Pittsburgh to Austin. I had a bit of an identity crisis. I didn’t know how this community would accept me or how to start from scratch in a brand new city. I was very unsure of myself, so I had to take some time off and get to know the city without obsessing over whether people would even like my content.

Once I started getting to know the Austin community, I felt a lot more comfortable sharing my experiences again. I’m still rebuilding my confidence.

Another challenge is just making time for blogging and creating for social. I work a 9-5 for my day job, and it’s hard to do everything I want for Endless Brunch.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I work for a company called VIQTORY as an SEO specialist. Everyone at work would probably say I’m best known for creating a thousand spreadsheets. It’s the best way for me to get organized and focused, so I live by them. Even for Endless Brunch, I have several spreadsheets with content ideas, editorial calendars, and social media schedules.

As an SEO specialist, I optimize content for our companies’ blogs, GI Jobs, Military Spouse, and VIQTORY for search.

What’s next?
I have a lot of ideas for Endless Brunch! The brunch content will always be a focus, but I want to create more of a community. One idea is to run a few brunch networking events. I love meeting new people and finding ways to work together. I’d want to do some small-scale events to create a more cozy environment to meet new friends and collaborate on new ideas.

Also, I want to get into more lifestyle content – books I’ve loved, outfit ideas, workouts in the city. Just things that make me happy. I love brunch, but I want to share some other facets of my life and connect with people on those.
