Meet Amanda Massey of Elite Motion & Performance

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Massey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I have always known I would work in the field of healthcare. My original plan was to become a surgeon. After breaking my femur falling off of a horse when I was a child and going through a challenging surgery I was fascinated with doctor’s abilities to “fix” people. This injury in my youth did not stop me from partaking in many equestrian activities including jumping, dressage and polo. With all equestrian sports, come additional injuries to the body, and after injuring my back playing polo at Texas A&M University, I realized chiropractic was my true calling. My chiropractor at Texas A&M inspired me to become a chiropractor for people and animals. I wanted to specialize in taking care of equestrians and their horses, which are true athletes, to be able to run, jump and maneuver their bodies with a rider balanced atop.

My first job out of chiropractic school was working for one of the top sports medicine chiropractors in Dallas who specialized in treating Elite Athletes, many of our patients were Olympic figure skaters, professional hockey players, select volleyball players and even the US Womens soccer team when they were visiting for a match. I loved treating these athletes, but I always knew I wanted to live in Austin, Texas. In 2016 I moved to Austin and started my own practice treating patients holistically using chiropractic care, nutritional support and sports medicine techniques that were once reserved for professional athletes. I learned a lot about building relationships and connecting with our community as I organically built my human and animal practice into what it is today.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There have been challenges building my business and learning how to have work/life balance. The first two years I lived in Austin, I struggled financially because I did not know how to run a business. Surrounding myself with people who could advise and mentor me helped me attract the ideal patients to me and also create a profitable business that I enjoy working for. I love seeing human and animal patients everyday. I love being an advocate for my patient’s health and wellbeing and empowering people to make changes that improve the quality of their lives. I have learned how to value myself, create appropriate boundaries, delegate tasks to people with different skillsets aside from my own, in order to help me have a more efficient and profitable business.

Other than when I started my business in 2016, April 2020 was incredibly hard for me. My business came to a complete halt, I was depressed and unsure where to go with my life. I realized that I needed to challenge myself to get back out into the world, in order to find fulfillment. I had to make huge changes to create a safe work environment for my patients and myself. This pivot felt like I was starting over, but ultimately it has led to exponential growth so that my team can help even more people and animals in Austin.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Elite Motion & Performance?
Elite Motion & Performance is a chiropractic practice consisting of two female chiropractors that provide holistic healthcare services and treatments for injuries to people and their pets. We believe in creating a customized treatment plan for each patient based on the patient’s individualized needs. Treatment plans can consist of chiropractic adjustments, cold laser therapy, fascial distortion model, myofascial release, labwork, imaging, at home rehabilitative exercise plans and nutritional advice. Dr. Molly specializes in prenatal care and wellness chiropractic care for families in addition to chiropractic care for all types of animals including exotics and pocket pets. Dr. Massey specializes in treating extremity injuries using sports medicine techniques developed for elite athletes. She also uses a similar approach when working with performance horses and competitive show dogs to help prevent injuries and improve performance. We are different from other chiropractors because we spend time with our patient’s one on one to find the root cause of the problem and ensure that our patients are improving with every visit. I am proud that we offer quality patient care to all of our patients and we are advocates for our patients to help them achieve their healthcare goals using a variety of treatment methods.

What does success mean to you?
