Today we’d like to introduce you to Annie Ray.
Hi Annie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
After graduating from UNT in Denton, TX with a BFA in Photography. I came to Austin for an internship with G Russ Studios in Georgetown, Texas. At the same time, the nightlife photographer became a big deal in Austin, including OutWithMe, WeOwnThisCity, and Allison Narro. I had this idea that I saw from two California photographers ShadowScene and PYTFridays’ Jiro to create these pop-up photoshoots at events, which I would later refer to as Photobooths. Around 2008, I shot my first photobooth event for Austinist.com‘s ACL party at the Mohawk. From there, my career evolved into what it is today.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
Since my business took off during the 2007 to 2009 recession, there were many. I have always heard that it take three years for a business to really take off, and I think that is true.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a photographer in Austin, Texas. I love photographing people and think I specialize in capturing a person’s personality. Some of my proudest moments are working with amazing local Austin creatives and seeing their careers grow and take off. My editing style and focus on creating moments of genuine authenticity are what sets me apart.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
I am a HUGE fan of anything Mel Robbins. I am thankful for Dr. Phil on OWN because I always have him on in the background when editing photos. My number one online resource is CreativeLive.com.
