Today we’d like to introduce you to Cristo Burciaga.
Hi Cristo, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Everyone has a story; here’s a glimpse of mine: It all started with a lump that led to doctor visits, that lead to uncertainty, that lead to depression and loneliness, and, eventually, my surgery. Long story short, I’m still here. The result? The origin story of Power Yoga TV. When COVID happened, virtual yoga became a thing. I would play music on shuffle but caught myself stopping my yoga flow to find the right song for that moment of the yoga flow. That would interrupt my yoga flow, so then I started creating mixes that would flow with the yoga that I was doing.
As I grew more confident in my mixes, I decided to share my unique approach to yoga with the world. I started offering yoga classes incorporating live music, using my skills as a DJ to create a unique and immersive experience for the students. I would DJ live for yoga classes and make mixes that would match the energy of the poses and help them sink deeper into their practice.
At first, I was nervous about how people would react to my unconventional approach to yoga. But to their delight, the classes quickly gained a following. Students raved about the transformative power of the music and the way it helped them connect with their bodies and minds on a deeper level.
I continue to refine my craft, blending different styles of music with various yoga practices to create an ever-evolving experience for students. I aim to share my love of music and yoga with anyone open to receiving it. And they know that as long as they stay true to their passions and keep an open mind, there will always be new opportunities to learn, grow, and inspire others on their yoga journey.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
No, it’s not a smooth road. I’m dealing with mental health issues, depression, and loneliness, and as a Hispanic man, it’s even harder because I wasn’t taught to talk about my feelings.
Let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Power Yoga TV is a pop-up yoga event but also a platform for instructors to showcase their flows and help promote/grow their brand. I, Agent PYT (Cristo Burciaga), DJ for yoga classes and make mixes that match the energy of the poses and help students sink deeper into their practice. I am a local ambassador for F45 and Equinox and am affiliated with Nike Ekin and 1st Phorm Supplements.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
I recently found a possible mentor. I met him randomly at the gym. I always advise you to be kind; you never know who you are talking to.
