Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Mullinix.
Hi Julia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I have had so many fun memories from my childhood watching cartoons, drawing all of my favorite characters and writing my own stories. I also studied 2D animation at Austin Community College and graduated with an Associate’s degree along with a certificate in Illustration.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Not always. When I first started college, I struggled with my drawing skills but they got better by practicing in my spare time. I also have high functioning autism which had me lean in a different way, but despite that, I managed to achieve my goal.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I work as a contract animator for The Trevor Romain Company. I create animations, graphics, stitch video clips, and sometimes edit podcasts for social media. I am most proud of bringing Trevor’s stories to life. When it comes to certain technical skills, I can get tasks done quickly.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Yes. Starting out college with very little drawing instruction made it very challenging. But despite this, all I had to do is practice in my spare time using instructions and advice I got from my teachers.
