Meet Kelvy B of KB Management Brand Operations

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kelvy B.

Hi Kelvy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
First off, thank you guys for the opportunity and using your platform to shed light on entrepreneurs like myself. I started my entrepreneurial journey in the beauty industry in 2014, the name of my brand was called Lipsplash by Kelvy B. At the time, I still resided where I was born and raised, Milwaukee, WI. I was encouraged to begin my creative path with my own lip-gloss line, by a mentor of mine at the time, but entrepreneurship was always my passion. I grew up in a very traditional environment, where the expectation was to get a degree in higher education and find a great job for stability. Although I checked all the boxes, graduating with my bachelor’s degree in Business Management, building a great career in Corporate America, married my high school sweetheart, and had two beautiful children, I was still searching for fulfillment.

After five years in the beauty industry and also creating brands for my children, I found myself being the go-to person amongst my family, friends, and business associates I met during my journey for all things branding. I had the pleasure to help other women build and navigate in the beauty industry as well as grow their brands based on their business goals. After moving to Austin in 2017, my newly found passion began to grow. Austin not only gave me the opportunity to reach a new audience but, I was also able to align my corporate career, which was now in the tech industry, with my own brand. I started transitioning from beauty to branding in 2019, and by the first year I had the opportunity to build over 50 websites for new and existing entrepreneurs. In 2020, with the spike in entrepreneurs building an online presence for their brand due to the pandemic, I was able to increase that number and to date I’ve branded over 200 entrepreneurs. I assisted with business coaching/mentoring, brand logo design, website development, social media branding, and authentic brand marketing and strategizing for all businesses. I went from a freelancer (Branding with Kelvy B) to building my Branding company, KB Management Brand Operations. To date my 14 year old son works for my company as a video editor, photographer, and creative strategist for my daughter’s YouTube channel.

With the influx of clients to manage, and small businesses inquiring about our services, I also hired a graphic designer to help delegate some projects so I can still balance my corporate career. Today, we are managing seven long-term contracted clients and servicing small business owners for their branding needs in more than 20 states in the U.S. My path was not easy, but there were so many people who contributed to my success, and I only want to do the same for others. I had the opportunity to tell my story through my first published book, released January 2021. A Creative Path by Kelvy B is a mentor style guided workbook for entrepreneurs and creatives on how to embrace change and trust the process. My purpose for writing this book was to provide a resource for youth to remind them of their abilities to follow their dreams and be that resource for them to learn from and receive guidance along their journey. To help fuel that goal, I accepted a position as a board member of R.Life Community Organization whose vision is to help empower today’s youth through education and mentorship. My ultimate goal is to impact as many lives as possible by providing the tools, resources, inspiration, and education to everyone following their dreams. KB Management is more than a brand, it’s a community!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was not a smooth road at all, but the goal is to not give up. I faced challenges such as self-doubt, fear, lack of funding and resources, lack of knowledge, minor setbacks, you name it. I faced all my challenges head-on and even took a break or started over when I needed to. I had to realize failure comes with the process, and the importance of learning from those challenges is what allowed me to push through.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Remaining positive, open-minded, and being willing to be the student and not always the teacher played a major role in my success. Investing in myself, being ok with hiring professionals in the industries I want to learn from to teach me what I need to know to excel. Having a routine and structure was essential to prioritizing, and setting healthy boundaries contributed to me being able to wear many hats.
