Meet Mariah Holmes

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mariah Holmes.

Hi Mariah, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story began at a really young age when I became fascinated with cooking. It started when I would watch my mom and aunts in kitchen and I would sit there and try to learn from them. I remember being in the kitchen with my aunt at the age of eight and we would make up new recipes to share with the family. These recipes included anything from nachos that we infamously named “Not yo Nachos” to deviled eggs, she was definitely the aunt that helped me express my creativity through food. . That interest grew by watching Food Network on my free time and then I started to follow those recipes and cook for my family. Eventually, I became more comfortable in the kitchen and would make up my own recipes and I would make these recipes for my family and friends. Once I realized that cooking and creating new fun recipes was much more than just a casual hobby of mine, I decided to launch ATX Recipes. At first, I had no idea where it would go and to be honest, I thought it would just be a fun casual venture for me to share my creativity, but it has launched into so much more than that. I decided that I wanted to jump headfirst and create a platform where I can share the recipes that I create and build a community to bounce ideas off of. This venture has pushed me to grow more than I could have ever imagined, I have met so many great people through my passion and I have learned more about cooking, food, and myself through this venture. What really launched ATX Recipes is my passion for creating new recipes for the everyday home cook and utilizing as many fresh ingredients as possible in those recipes. I realize that sometimes a recipe can be overwhelming to the everyday person and especially when a recipe is using only the freshest ingredients so I have always found value in making all of the recipes that I share as easy as possible and super approachable.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are challenges in everything that you do and I will always welcome challenges in my life because I firmly believe it is what makes you stronger. On this venture of mine, there have been ups and there have been downs. For me, the hardest part about launching this platform is the mental aspect of second-guessing myself. I am constantly wondering, do people like my recipes, do people like me as a person, are they judging me, and the list goes on and on. The most important lesson that I have learned through all of this is to be myself and not let anything get in the way of being authentic and sharing what I love.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
My passion is creating and sharing recipes that are fresh, beautiful, and approachable. I think what sets me apart from others is that I cook what I crave while trying to add as many fresh ingredients as possible. That is super important to me because I always want to be authentic and my creativity shines when I am excited about what I am making. To me, it is so important to stay 100% authentic to myself because I believe that my passion will shine through much brighter that way.

Authenticity and generosity, I think those two things are so important in anything that you do.
