Today we’d like to introduce you to Denise Garcia.
Hi Denise, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Thank you so much for this opportunity! My name is Denise Garcia. I have lived in Austin since 2007 and love Austin so much (minus the heat at times!). I am married to my wonderful husband, we have two sweet children ages 4 and 2 and an elderly Yorkie named Toto.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would love to say that it was but there have been struggles! I think the biggest barrier has been the COVID pandemic as there was a lot of uncertainty about having a large number of children in an enclosed indoor space. Also, marketing is hard work! I have learned a lot about taking the initiative to do pursue a dream and having more confidence in myself and the service I am offering.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As the owner of Austin Sleepover Tents, I offer the experience of a magical sleepover party for kids of all ages! In a nutshell, I design and plan the party based on the desired theme. I will show up at your home, set everything up and then come back the next day and pack it all up. Basically, it’s an all in one party service where the parents do none of the work! A total stress relief for busy parents!
In regards to employment, I am most proud of my Master’s degree in Nursing. My undergraduate degree is not in Nursing but I spent many years working at a residential treatment center for children in the foster care system. During my time there, I learned a lot about the healthcare system and the huge need for mental health services.
I think what sets me apart from others is my previous work history. I have worked in various industries – hospitality, non-profit, and hospitals. I have even spent two years living overseas. Through those experiences, I have been able to interact with all sorts of different people with different lifestyles, different views on things and I have been able to learn so much from them.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
How do I pick just one? One of my most favorite things growing up was riding horses and at when I was around 11 or 12, my mom purchased a horse for me. I loved riding her! Honestly, though, hard question!
