Today we’d like to introduce you to Faith Collins.
Faith, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my business as a sophomore in high school, focusing on wedding videography. It gave me something to be so proud of and kept me busy when I wasn’t in school. I like to think it has something to do with why I got married so young. I became obsessed with the love stories I was capturing and wanted to spend my life telling them through video. By this time I had been around the world and experienced first-hand the impact I could have. I photographed everything, in hopes to share the amazing things I was learning with as many people as possible. I graduated high school a year early and spent those months moving around the globe, capturing new cultures, communities, beautiful places and growing so much myself. It was during this time that I found my “why.” I fell in love with the people I met and the things I was learning and realized that I could do so much good with my camera. It was then that I made the switch to intentional brand photography.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Definitely not. There were and continue to be times that test my patience. I’m basically a one-woman show. I do all of my own web design, social media, strategy, accounting, organization, shooting, editing, client communication… the list could go on forever. If I’ve learned one thing, it’s that being a “photographer” doesn’t just mean taking pictures. But through all of the hard, I have learned so much and am thankful for every piece of it.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in photography and videography for conscious brands and people that are making a difference. I have devoted my energy to helping others showcase the good they are doing – whether that be a brand using sustainable practices, someone working to make clean water more accessible, or a company committed to being non-toxic, etc. Anyone can take photos, but I work with people to capitalize on the things they are doing that makes them stand out and translate that vision into visual content to help them grow. I work with brands, people, couples, families and do the occasional wedding. It’s super important to me that I’m taking the time to get to know the people I am working with – their goals, struggles, and what they’re most proud of. At the end of the day, I’m not working with clients, but with friends, and that is what makes my business something that leaves my cup so full.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
This is something I’ve thought a lot about over the last couple of years. Technology is improving at crazy rates, and now these amazing cameras are widely available right in our pockets! More recently, we have seen “relatable” video content being pushed on all social platforms – the kind that doesn’t take much effort, or at least is made to appear like it doesn’t take much effort (talking about you, TikTok). So sometimes it has left me to wonder “where are the brands and people needing beautiful, creative photography?” Here’s the thing. I believe there is space for everything and every type of creator, sometimes it’s just about finding that space you belong in. The trends will come and go, and sometimes it’s fun to hop on the train! But ultimately, each individual creator has their own unique way of seeing the world and that will ALWAYS be valuable.
