Today we’d like to introduce you to Heather Hilgers and Amy Doucet.
Hi Heather/Amy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
We (Amy Doucet & Heather Hilgers) met in 2019 when our sons were in Kindergarten together. We were room moms and shared a love of plants, design and helping people. Once the pandemic hit, we really started to chat more about how to make our homes a more comforting oasis. We discovered that the plants really made a difference in our quality of happiness and well-being. We wanted to bring that feeling to others and one day, over a bowl of Pho, LIV & leaf was born.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Our first day in business was the last day of the school year in 2021. We instantly navigated caring for our children all summer, running a new business and still being in the middle of a pandemic. We were almost immediately presented with many amazing opportunities, and as exciting as that was for us, we quickly realized our business infrastructure wasn’t ready for rapid growth. We found ourselves building the bridge as we crossed it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
LIV & Leaf is your personal plant shopping service. We pride ourselves on finding healthy and beautiful houseplants from local greenhouses. We then pair them with eye-catching planters, many of which are hand-made locally by women. We will deliver them straight to your door, office, or place of business. We also curate gifts on your behalf, provide plant care education, and host fun plant-themed events! Here at LIV & Leaf, we believe everyone can not only keep houseplants alive but help them thrive. And we’re here to help!
We are most proud when our clients come to us saying how they couldn’t keep plants alive before but are now. They mention how their space seems so much brighter and happier. Part of our business model is providing one on one service through social media chats or in person consultations. We evaluate light, design and aesthetic, then give suggestions of plants and planters to fit the space. We offer delivery to homes, schools, businesses, or anywhere you want your plant.
We’re always looking for the lessons that can be learned in any situation, including tragic ones like the Covid-19 crisis. Are there any lessons you’ve learned that you can share?
We started as a direct result of the COVID-19 crisis. During the pandemic people needed things to not only occupy their time but to care for. Many people turned to houseplants as a way to fulfill that desire.
We deeply believe that self care, above all else is of prime importance for a healthy happy life. That looks different for everyone. For us, we work hard, do all that we can do to feel accomplished, at peace and above all fulfilled. We put our friendship and family first, build deep and long lasting relationships with our clients and treat all who cross our paths with respect and gratitude.
