Today we’d like to introduce you to Jacqui Moore.
Hi Jacqui, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
As a little girl, I enjoyed playing with makeup. One of my fondest memories was watching my late paternal grandmother putting on her red lipstick everyday. The look of this vibrant color is what drew me into my passion for cosmetic artistry. As a teenager growing up during the late 90s and early 2000s, I experimented with all of the fun makeup trends including the iconic skinny brow which was over-plucked and far apart. In mid-2000s, I discovered artistry cosmetics which grew my perception of what beauty means to myself and others. It was during this time I embraced the cosmetic world and all of the different beauty brands it had to offer. For the next several years, I worked in the high-end cosmetic’s/skincare industry. Today, I own my own business as a published makeup artist. I serve a broad range of makeup services which include weddings, quinceaneras, photoshoots, date night/girls’ night, Halloween, and company/organization professional headshots. At present, I freelance as an in store representative for Shiseido Beauty Prestige Group with an emphasis on skincare and complexion perfection.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The path to where I am today has not been smooth. After working 9-5, I would go home, watch YouTube tutorials with my bag of makeup, and just start playing. Getting into the beauty industry is not easy when you are self-taught and do not have any professional experience. To overcome this challenge, I was presented with an offer to being my journey in skincare,
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am an artist who loves to play with makeup on many different spectrums. One day I can give you soft glam and the next, I am walking around with house looking like a rainbow with gemstones. I take pride in making my clients completely happy by exceeding their expectations. I love to educate my clients along the way during our appointments so they are able to replicate their routine without my guidance. My specialization is color matching. As silly as that sounds, I cannot tell you how many clients I meet on the daily basis expressing how their current product is wrong for them. I am known for my colorful, vibrant and intricate Día de los Muertos recreations. They are a huge part of my culture as well as celebrated works of art. What sets myself apart from others is my creative outlook. My makeup looks are nontraditional and fun! I always say makeup has no rules! You do you because at the end of the day, it all washes off.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Knowing your limits and personal boundaries, Being in the beauty industry can be very demanding, especially if you are good at what you do, clients can be very insistent. You want to be very clear and make sure there is communication at all times. Create a checklist for yourself as far as how you want to run and conduct your business and what it is going to take to make it happen. Know what you are willing to take on and what you do not want to offer in your services. As a makeup artist, there are no right or wrongs when it comes to makeup. It comes down to what you like and want. Be creative, innovative, and do not be afraid to think outside of the box.
