Today we’d like to introduce you to Kim Roa.
Hi Kim, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I joined Instagram in 2012 and one of my first post was a collage of an OOTD. I’ve always liked taking pictures and sharing it on social media. At first, my Instagram page was basically a personal diary of my friends and I. Not until recently (2020) that I decided to take my Instagram page a little more serious by niching down, it was pretty easy for me to figure out which is travel, solo female travel specifically.
As an only child, I’ve always felt courageous I guess, I love doing things by myself and actually enjoy my own company. My first ever solo trip was in my dream country Japan in 2016. Going on that trip was so empowering, being totally responsible for myself just made me realize how capable I am in doing whatever it is I want.
My goal is to see at least 80 countries. So far, I’ve been to 13.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not smooth at all, there was a long stagnant stage where I felt super self-conscious, I was worried about my friends thinking that I’m cringe if I start interacting on social media like an “influencer”. I knew long ago that doing creative work is something I’m passionate about and I just kept that passion inside because of the fear of being criticized by others.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
My name is Kim, I’m a child-free millennial based in San Diego, California. I am a nano content creator where I share my travels as a solo female traveler. My goal is to show the freedom and somehow remove the stigma of fear associated with solo travel. There is so much to see and learn outside of our own comfort zone!
What matters most to you?
Living life! I know, cliché but I believe we are not meant to just work and wait til retirement to start traveling. Even if it’s just by going somewhere near your hometown, go out there and explore and don’t wait for anyone to accompany you because then you’ll be wasting time.
