Daily Inspiration: Meet Laura Parsons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Parsons

Hi Laura, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been drawn to interior design. I started out working as a design assistant for an interior design company. I worked there for about 10 years and then went out on my own. A friend of mine mentioned she needed some help with her home and requested I help her. One client lead to 2 then 3 and so on! I’ve been working on my own for about 10 years and I’m loving it! I do about 90% residential and 10% commercial. Interior design truly is my passion. Seems like everything I do is attached to design…sometimes I wish I didn’t have to sleep. It’s been my dream for awhile now to open a boutique store. I’m currently working with a realtor to find the perfect space and hope to open by the end of the year. The brick and mortar will offer furnishings, home accessories and design services. In the near future we’d like to grow to offer design and build services. Funny enough my boy girl twins are studying interior design and construction management in college. Maybe someday I’ll have a family business? 😀

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I feel like it’s been fairly smooth. I’ve scaled my business to be able to be there for my kids and volunteer when I could. My husband’s been very supportive. Now that they’ve started college, I’ve really amped up the business and look forward to opening the store. I know the store will be a huge commitment in many ways but I’m ready!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in interior design. My projects are mostly residential but also have small commercial projects. The majority of my work is remodels, which is really fun! When you look back at the before pictures it’s really amazing to see how you’ve transformed the space. My design style is very classic and timeless. I always like to try to incorporate an antique or bold pattern or pop of color into a space. I design in layers which results in a cozy lived in space. I always want the space to be welcoming and comfortable for the homeowners as well as their guests but yet pulled together!
I’m most proud of having a great team of trades that I work with. It’s hard finding your A team, but makes all the difference. I’m also very proud of some ASID(American Society of Interior Designers) design awards that I’ve won. It feels good to be noticed and appreciated.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
We recently purchased a beach house in Port Aransas, TX. I love going there to relax and unwind. I’ve always loved coastal design, so it’s really fun for me to decorate it with all the seagrass, shiplap and soft blues! Best news is, it’s available to rent!
