Today we’d like to introduce you to Danny Bonilla
Hi Danny, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My passion for music sparked when I was just 8 years old, where I received classical training as a baritone in choir. That early foundation not only shaped my vocal range but also instilled in me a deep appreciation for musical structure. By the time I reached my senior year of high school, my interest in music had evolved, leading me to dive into music theory, where I gained a deeper understanding of composition and arrangement. Around that time, I collaborated with a close friend to create a mixtape, which marked my first venture into producing original music.
Throughout high school, I frequently attended open mic nights across the Dallas-Fort Worth area, seizing every opportunity to hone my craft and connect with other local musicians. It was during one of these events that I crossed paths with the members of Luna Luna. We clicked instantly, both musically and personally, and in 2018, I officially joined the band. Since then, we’ve been on an incredible journey together, touring, creating, and building a loyal fan base along the way.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My path in music has always been one of perseverance and resilience. Right after high school, while others were exploring their next steps, my life took a turn. My parents relocated to Houston, leaving me to navigate adulthood on my own. I found myself working full-time and crashing at my uncle’s place, trying to stay afloat while pursuing my passion. Eventually, I managed to get my own place and felt like things were finally coming together. But then COVID hit, throwing everything into disarray once again.
Now, the struggle has shifted. It’s not just about surviving anymore; it’s about finding the spark that drives me creatively. Between the demands of growing up, maintaining responsibilities, and chasing after the fun moments that inspire my music, it’s become a balancing act. But through it all, I remain committed to my journey, knowing that every obstacle shapes the artist and person I’m becoming.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a musician, producer, and artist with a versatile skill set that allows me to step into any role when needed. While I’m primarily known for my singing voice and my work on various side projects across Texas, what truly sets me apart is my dedication and adaptability. I thrive in spontaneous environments and can improvise on the spot, whether it’s in the studio, on stage, or collaborating with other creatives.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Most people might not know that aside from music, I’m an avid gardener with a deep passion for the natural world. I’ve spent years learning about Texas’ native landscape, and that knowledge has become a grounding force for me outside of the studio.
