Inspiring Conversations with Ashton Augillard of Nu2u Moving

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashton Augillard

Hi Ashton, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Nu2u Moving & Delivery: From Humble Beginnings to Exceptional Service

My journey in the moving industry started back in 2018 as a helper with a local company. What began as an entry-level role quickly grew into a passion, driven by the relationships I formed with clients and the satisfaction of helping people transition to new homes. By 2020, I had risen to lead mover at a company founded by a friend, earning five-star reviews for our commitment to quality service.

In late 2023, I was offered a chance to buy the company I had worked for. While it was an honor, I felt it was time to carve out a new path. Starting a business from scratch was intimidating, but I knew it was the right move. All I needed was the right partner.

In early 2024, Lawrence and I launched Nu2u Moving & Delivery. His business expertise, paired with my hands-on experience, created the perfect balance. Our vision was clear: to deliver exceptional moving experiences that combine professionalism with a personal touch. This vision has been the foundation of our growing company, where every move is carried out with care and dedication.

Our success has been supported by incredible mentors, especially Ms. Lisa Friday, whose guidance in goal-setting, managing growth, and networking has been priceless. Her mentorship, along with our shared commitment to excellence, has set Nu2u up for continued success in providing high-quality, reliable service.

My journey to founding Nu2u Moving & Delivery has been shaped by friendships, pivotal moments, and a passion for entrepreneurship. While pursuing my international business degree at Angelo State University, life’s complexities didn’t stop me from following my dream. Six months after graduation, Lawrence and I took a leap of faith—and what began as a bold move has grown into a thriving company, rooted in the lessons learned from our early experiences and focused on delivering unmatched service in the moving industry.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Launching Nu2u Moving, like many new ventures, came with its fair share of challenges. From the outset, we encountered several obstacles, starting with the legal and logistical hurdles required to operate a legitimate moving business. Securing the necessary verifications, including an Employer Identification Number (EIN), Department of Transportation (DOT) authority, and proper insurance, was a lengthy process that often felt overwhelming. The paperwork was extensive, and ensuring compliance with both federal and state regulations was a learning curve for us as first-time business owners.

Being a new company, one of the most significant challenges was building trust with potential customers. Without an established reputation, many people were hesitant to hire us, even though we knew we could deliver excellent service. Trust in this industry doesn’t happen overnight, and every new client interaction became an opportunity to prove our reliability, professionalism, and efficiency. We quickly learned that word-of-mouth referrals would be one of the most effective ways to establish credibility, but getting to that point took time and persistence.

Advertising was another area that required a lot of trial and error. We didn’t have a large marketing budget, so figuring out the best way to get our name out there became a puzzle we needed to solve quickly. At first, we dabbled in everything—social media ads, local flyers, online listings—but we realized that not all methods were yielding the same results. Finding the right mix of advertising methods that worked for us, given our limited resources, took careful consideration and ongoing adjustments.

The biggest hurdle, however, was not having the startup capital to fund the business adequately. Without significant savings or external investors, Lawrence and I had to bootstrap the company from the ground up. We both put in what we could, but that meant forgoing luxuries and sometimes taking on personal financial stress to keep the business afloat. Equipment, marketing, and even basic operational costs like fuel and maintenance required stretching every dollar. In the beginning, we didn’t have the luxury of buying top-of-the-line trucks or investing in large-scale marketing campaigns. Instead, we relied on what we had: a strong work ethic, a clear vision, and a determination to succeed.

As Nu2u began to grow, managing that growth became an unexpected challenge. At first, we dreamed of gaining more clients, but when those calls started coming in, we quickly realized we needed to figure out how to scale without sacrificing service quality. The balance between taking on new business and maintaining our high standards was delicate. Growth also meant expanding our team and trusting others to deliver the same level of service we had built our reputation on, which required more oversight and training.

Ultimately, each obstacle taught us valuable lessons and pushed us to become better business owners. It wasn’t easy, but overcoming these challenges has strengthened Nu2u Moving & Delivery and solidified our foundation for long-term success.

We’ve been impressed with Nu2u Moving, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At Nu2u Moving, we specialize in customized Residential/Commercial moving services, handling every job with precision, whether it’s a small apartment or a large office building. Our experienced team is dedicated to making your move smooth and hassle-free.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
There are plenty of things we love about working at Nu2u Moving & Delivery. One of the best parts is meeting new people and seeing new areas every day. Each move presents a new environment, new faces, and new stories, which keeps the work fresh and exciting. We also take pride in employing likeminded individuals who share our passion for the job. Our team thrives on challenges, whether it’s lifting heavy or awkwardly shaped items or playing a “Tetris-like” game while loading and packing the truck efficiently. We see these challenges as opportunities to showcase our skill and expertise.

However, the physical demands of the job can be tough. While it’s a great workout, the strain on our bodies, especially after long days, can catch up to us. Stairs and long walks, particularly when moving into apartment complexes or multi-story buildings, add another layer of difficulty. And then there’s the Texas heat, which is no joke. Moving heavy furniture under a blazing sun can test even the fittest among us.

One of the more frustrating challenges we face as a newer company is customer doubt. Even with our best efforts and great reviews, there’s always a level of hesitation from some clients when they hear we’ve only been in business since the beginning of the year. Some customers feel uneasy hiring a company they perceive as unproven, even though we’ve got years of experience in the industry. It’s understandable, but it means we have to work even harder to prove ourselves on every job, often exceeding expectations to build trust and credibility.

Another challenge is navigating the slow season, which runs from October through January. During this time, the demand for moving services decreases, and many companies struggle to maintain steady work for their employees. We are conscious of ensuring that our team has sufficient hours to keep them motivated and financially stable, while also managing our operational costs to keep the business afloat. Planning for the slow season requires creativity and careful budgeting, but it’s something we’re committed to overcoming each year.
