Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Yarbrough
Hi Amy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
When I had stepped away from coaching basketball,I also had my second major knee injury so was looking for something I could do for fun, exercise and competition. That is when I found pickleball. I started as a player but then decided to use my coaching skills to help others learn the game.
I started locally with another coach but then branched out on my own and built my brand of AYpickleball. I have been blessed to get to work with so many clients in the central Texas area. I now have other coaches that work with me. We put on clinics, lessons, camps, corporate events, private clinics, and mixers. I knew some pickleball players that were in the business and helped me get started with a website, videos and pictures. I will always be grateful to SWNG productions.
I now have added consulting, broadcasting, and will be helping a new pickleball community called Oakfire Ridge in Bulverde, TX with their pickleball programming.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I was fortunate because my business grew because of the growth and popularity of pickleball. I have been in the coaching world a long time so I think my style and passion for the game attracted people. It is a lot of work starting and building your own business but it has been a fun journey. My goal from the beginning was to be my own boss and get to do things on my schedule. I am glad I stayed with that vision even though it requires a lot of work and trial and error on new programming.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am the creator and owner of AYpickleball, a business in the central Texas area where I coach pickleball, host mixers, put on corporate events, teach camps, host pickleball retreats, do commentary for NPL Pickleball and play Professional Champions Pro Pickleball.
I am most proud of the brand I have built that brings experience, professionalism, and high quality to all things pickleball that I do. I think the combination of being a high-level player myself with 30 years of coaching experience and professionalism sets me apart.
Let’s talk about our city – what do you love? What do you not love?
I love the pickleball community in Austin as well as the food. I do not like the traffic.
