Meet Kayla Piedade of Keep Austin Blonde

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kayla Piedade

Hi Kayla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I became a single mom at the beginning of 2023 to a two week only baby and 21 month old. I moved back to Texas a few months later to start my life over from square one. I was fortunate enough to be a stay at home mom for a few years, with that being said I didn’t have a career or college education behind me. My youngest had turned 5 months and my oldest two years old I enrolled in night time cosmetology school. I did a hybrid education, I studied during the days while taking care of my children and going to school at night. I graduated in April of 2024 and became a fully licensed cosmetologist. I started my career as a hairstylist at Keep Austin Blonde in North Austin. My mentor Brittany educated me on everything there was to know from color, techniques to placements. She really believed in me and pushed me beyond belief. I leveled up as an apprentice to a fully time stylist. I am now able to work during the days, as well as take my children to and from school. I am still a single mom building up my beautiful clientele in the city of Austin Texas! I couldn’t of done this without my amazing mother, mentor and of course my children. It was very hard and a lot of long sleepless nights but I achieved what I needed to for them and I can only grow from here!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My road to where I am now wasn’t always the smoothest. In the beginning I was juggling having two babies under the age of two, starting my divorce process, and attending night school while at the same time being in a new state and environment. My days were long caring for my children, nights were long with school and staying up during the night with my youngest. Overtime, it did get a lot easier as everyone was transitioning to this new life and environment. My mother, Sarah was the reason any of this process started. She pushed me to move back to Texas, enroll in school and help with my children. I owe her and give her all the credit in the world. I am now almost done with my divorce, my children are both older and enrolled in amazing schools. It was a long road and very challenging but nothing I wasn’t prepared to deal with head on.
