Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Woolsey
Laura, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
As a young girl, I loved organizing my family’s photos – helping my mom write names and dates on the back of each photo before putting it into an album. I also created a catalog of details about all of the movies my family recorded from television onto VHS tapes. I just loved tracking these details! Fast forward through a degree in math and computer science and a career in programming and data analysis – I realized that organizing and protecting family stories was my true passion. I started Memory Forward in 2007 as a high-touch scanning and organization service, and have grown steadily since then, supporting over a thousand clients in the Austin area.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Oh it has definitely not been a smooth road! Aside from the obvious struggles that the pandemic created for such a highly personalized service, there have been so many changes in technology over the past two decades and in how we all enjoy our photos. What started as mostly a scanning service has evolved to help people who struggle to manage their digital photo collections as well. We’ve all accumulated hard drives, old computers, camera cards, cloud accounts, and far too many digital photos from our phones, making it nearly impossible to enjoy these memories without help from experts. Keeping up with the rapidly changing technology, including dramatic improvements in scanning technology, has proven to be a major challenge but also quite rewarding when we can help our clients navigate the complexity and enjoy their memories again!
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Memory Forward?
While the days of flipping through printed photo albums or watching slideshows on a projector screen are long gone, Memory Forward is here to make all of those same memories available in modern formats that you can share with your loved ones and enjoy on a daily basis.
We specialize in high quality camera scanning and conversion of every format of movie and printed photo ever made, and we provide digital solutions that work for every individual customer. We also act as “photo detectives” to sleuth out tho who’s who of your family and identify when and where your special events took place. We want to be sure that your memories are secure, organized, shareable, and searchable! We are proud of being 100% local to the Austin area with a small team of dedicated professionals, and we are proud of the top notch service and quality that every customer receives.
Alright, so to wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share with us?
Our projects are almost always a combination of digitization (aka scanning) and organization. We believe that organization is the key to actually being able to enjoy your memories, because a mess of digital photos is no easier to use than a mess of printed photos in the back of your closet. We are the experts at creating a system for all of your memories, all in one place, so that you can always find exactly the photo you are looking for, or you can create beautiful gifts and projects based on any criteria you choose.
