Check Out Regan Hill’s Story

Today we’d like to introduce you to Regan Hill

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’m from Cedar Park, Texas, and I always knew I wanted to become something big. When I was in high school I was a VERY busy person. I would have every hour of my day booked with a new activity or organization. I acted in all the school plays, was team captain of my club soccer team, president of multiple STEM clubs, and a news anchor for my school’s broadcast journalism program. On the side, I was very active and passionate about my Instagram. I posted my fashion and tried to make my account aesthetic like all the influencers I admired. I started getting recognized by brands and I became an ambassador for four brands in high school. I wanted to be seen, whether that be as an actor, an influencer, or a news anchor. I applied to UT Austin as a journalism major with no hope of getting in. I had good grades and a great resume, but my SAT sucked and I wasn’t auto admit, so it made my chances very slim. I found out in January that I got into UT and I was beyond excited to start my undergrad at UT. Plus I was only 25 minutes away from home. After taking journalism classes at UT, I was very discouraged by the professors to pursue a career in journalism. That was when I decided to apply to internally transfer to Neuroscience. I spent my whole freshman year racking up my resume with all things STEM-related. I got a job as a research assistant at a motivational neuroscience lab at Dell Medical School. I took all STEM classes my spring semester and I joined many neuroscience and psychology organizations. On top of all of this, I still maintained my brand partnerships. I now have 18 brands that I work/have worked with! I found out over the summer that I got into the Neuroscience program; since then I’ve been taking all neuro classes. With the neuroscience major, I decided to pursue two minors, Korean and Social Behavioral Sciences. I created an intramural women’s soccer team and became team captain + won all of our games. I joined a sorority (Alpha Delta Pi) and I have met some of my best friends this semester! I also just got a research lab internship in Dr. Lee’s Lab for next semester and the summer. I plan to go to grad school and get my PhD in Neuroscience to hopefully become a clinical neuropsychologist.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. I’m a very hard worker and I set my mind to anything if I really want it. I don’t get a lot of sleep from this cause I am up studying all night because my major is tough. I kick myself if I get anything under an A in school because I want to be the best and show everyone how smart I am. I had all A’s in high school, so when I get lower than that on a college exam, I hate myself for not doing more. I felt that when I was a journalism major, everyone thought that I was stupid because my major wasn’t considered a “hard” one. This honestly played a part in why I switched majors. I truly miss my dream of wanting to become a famous New York news anchor. I honestly still want to become one, but I don’t know how I’ll be able to do that with a neuroscience degree. That is why I do influencing on the side because that gives me a tiny bit of fame when I get to work with brands I like and admire. I’ve always receive criticism from people when I post videos/content for brands. They think I’m just a wannabe influencer and that I will never become famous enough to succeed. What they don’t know is that all of these famous influencers started from somewhere. I’m simply just doing the same and trying to make it big like the rest of them. Plus it’s basically like a hobby for me, I enjoy posting on social media and I love getting free stuff + money from brands! With being busy all the time, it’s sometimes hard to get free time whether it be school or my social life. My orgs. require a lot of time from me, especially my sorority because I was recently initiated.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
For my influencing business, I have brands reach out to me through my socials to ask to collab or I reach out to brands to see if they are in need of ambassadors. A lot of time it’s just me applying and dming brands to see what they need from me and what I can get from them. Most of the time brands will send me free products such as perfumes, makeup, and clothing pieces to showcase on my socials for my followers to see. I take time to create Instagram Reels and TikTok’s for my socials and I edit them on CapCut to be posted. They usually give me a code to promote so that whenever someone buys their product and uses my code to get money off, I make a percentage from their profit. My followers know me for my fashion videos as well as for promoting beauty products from brands. I think that I bring authenticity to my page and I show that it’s okay to post whatever you want. Sure I’ll get judged by my peers, but it shows that I am confident with who I am and I love what I’m doing. My page radiates confidence and sends the message that you should “talk to yourself like someone you love”.

As for my love of neuroscience, I want to eventually do research on men’s testosterone levels and how that contributes to aggressive sexual behavior. Im also interested in learning about sexual addiction and the therapeutic methods behind the disorder. I want to pursue a career that is a mix of psychology and neuroscience (in other words, neuropsychology). The human brain always fascinated me when I was younger. I want to be a part of the future scientists to solve the unsolved mysteries of the brain.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always had an even-keeled personality. I was very active from a young age in soccer, and it turned into a true passion of mine that I continue to play today in college. Although athletic, I also found an interest in theatre and the arts. Every person I meet I would always welcome with open arms, and show them kindness and genuity. Theatre gave me a place to be myself and it gave me a huge amount of confidence. I wasn’t the most confident when I was younger; I was very insecure in my body and personality. It got to a point where I realized that it doesn’t matter what people think and not everyone will be satisfied with who you are. There isn’t anything I wouldn’t do for the people I love and care about. I have always been an “old soul” in more ways than one. I sing all my parent’s classic rock music and can appreciate a good pair of bell-bottom pants. I also have the type of personality that if I don’t have the answer to a question, I will find it. I am extremely resourceful and always have a strong desire to succeed in anything I attempt. At the same time, although I can be stubborn at times, I can appreciate and be open to hearing constructive criticism, and see it as an avenue to learn and grow from and value others’ perspectives.
