Today we’d like to introduce you to Oluwaseyi Odufuye
Hi Oluwaseyi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always been a musically inclined individual but, my journey with music started with piano lessons at a very young age. From there it evolved to being involved in–and eventually leading–church choir, being in my school band, and in a music group in college. The pandemic, although an untimely interruption and difficult time for all of us, gave me the time and space to create and work on my craft. All of these experiences have helped bring me to where I am now. I recently concluded my debut show called Artchives and have started performing and creating music professionally.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think everything happened when it was supposed to happen and certain seasons of my life prepared me for the next. So I wouldn’t say the journey has been smooth but it has been purposeful and intentional. The biggest struggle in my creative journey has honestly been with myself: learning how to apply discipline to my craft, how to shift my craft as my life and beliefs change, and empowering myself to take action on my ideas.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a musician, singer, songwriter, and community builder. I am known for singing and playing the saxophone.
I am most proud of my most recent project, Artchives– an intentionally curated experience centered on connection, creativity, and play that highlights local and emerging artists and makers. This idea was birthed last fall/winter (2023) and the first event came to fruition this past November. It is a project that I am continuing to work on in collaboration with my sister, DJ Flo, and am very excited to see the community we continue to build through it.
I am also proud of the creative community I have started building for myself here in Austin. Community is such a central part of creativity. There is a limit to what I can create alone.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
I don’t have a specific memory in mind but I remember enjoying my time at various summer camps growing up. I was also a gymnast and thoroughly enjoyed practicing and competing.
