Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Edwards
Hi Hannah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I knew I wanted to be a heavily tattooed person from a young age, and I got my first tattoo the very day I turned 18. From that moment on I was in love with all things tattoo, and I started getting tattooed anytime I had the extra cash. After a while of getting tattooed at the same shop, I was offered the chance to work the counter in exchange for maybe one day earning a tattoo apprenticeship, and I jumped at the chance and never looked back. I started tattooing in Dallas Texas in 2018 and was fortunate enough to be around people who were well educated in our craft and it’s history. Early on I learned the fundamentals of American traditional tattooing and what is needed to create a beautiful tattoo that will age well and last a lifetime. After spending the first five years of my career tattooing in Dallas as well as traveling to other states to learn and collect more tattoos from artists I admired I met a special someone in Austin and decided to make the move to the states capital. I’ve been in Austin for almost 2 years now and have been loving the city and meeting so many awesome people through tattooing here.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been easy, the apprenticeship period was of course difficult financially being it was unpaid so it was a lot of long hours at the shop and my second job. It was also difficult emotionally trying to learn an entire new medium with permanent mistakes, and putting your art out there for the general public. The client may not always love the design you put your heart into, so you have to learn early how to take criticism and adapt yourself to the situation.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I would say I’m most know for my bright American traditional tattoos, but I also enjoy doing delicate fine line black and grey tattoos as well. I try to stay versatile by working on a walk-in basis and taking on whatever request happens to walk through the door. I’d say what I’m most proud of and what sets me apart from others is that I try to approach every tattoo with the goal of exceeding my clients expectations. Wether it’s a huge back piece or a tiny 2 minute walk-in I try to make sure everyone gets the best possible product I can provide and has a comfortable, positive experience. Tattoos are with us forever and you’ll always remember getting it, so I try to be nice and give everyone a product they can be proud of for years to come,
What makes you happy?
Tattooing makes me the happiest because I know how life changing it can be. It can give you body confidence, it can give you closure during hardship, it can mark a moment in time. Marking peoples lives in this way is such a cool privilege I have and it makes me really happy making others happy in these ways.
