Hidden Gems: Meet Jordan Brown of 10 Pillar Productions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Brown

Hi Jordan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Our story began at Sam Houston State University, where a group of classmates discovered their shared passion for storytelling and filmmaking. After successfully collaborating on numerous projects during their college years, they decided to channel their creative synergy into building their own production company. Today, the 10 Pillar team partners with brands, marketing agencies, and fellow filmmakers to create impactful commercials and films across the great state of Texas.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Running your own business is a journey filled with highs and lows, but overall, I’ve had a positive experience navigating the challenges of entrepreneurship.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned, especially in the video production world, is the importance of collaboration. Early on, like many solo videographers, I believed I could do everything on my own. The reality, however, is that it takes a community to create something truly great. This is why one of our core values is “Collaboration Over Competition.” In this industry, there will always be moments when I need to call on other filmmakers, and they’ll need to call on me. Embracing this mindset has not only elevated the quality of our work but also strengthened the relationships within our creative community.

Finding clients is another ongoing challenge. There’s no secret formula or shortcut to staying booked. It’s about building genuine relationships, creating strategic partnerships, promoting yourself effectively, and consistently networking. These efforts require time, patience, and persistence, but they have been essential to our success.

Maintaining a work-life balance is also a unique challenge in the production world. If you’re seeking a traditional 9-to-5 job, production work might not be the right fit. The hours can be unpredictable…one day, you’re filming a corporate event late into the night, and the next, you’re on set for an early morning interview shoot. As a leader of a production company, it’s also difficult to fully “turn off” your work brain because the success of the business often feels like it rests squarely on your shoulders.
This is where having a strong team and support system makes all the difference. Surrounding myself with talented, dependable people helps me avoid burnout and keeps imposter syndrome at bay. Their encouragement reminds me that we’re moving in the right direction, even when the challenges feel overwhelming.

While the road isn’t always smooth, these challenges have shaped who we are as a video and film production company. They’ve taught us resilience, the value of teamwork, and the importance of staying adaptable. It’s these lessons that fuel our passion for creating meaningful work and pushing the boundaries of what we can achieve.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
10 Pillar Productions is an experienced and award-winning video and film production company dedicated to creating high-quality visual content at competitive prices.

Our diverse portfolio includes narrative feature films, short films, commercials, music videos, and much more, making us well-equipped to collaborate with clients ranging from independent artists to multinational corporations. Since 2017, our talented production team has worked seamlessly together, delivering exceptional results that reflect our commitment to quality and creativity.

We pride ourselves on our ability to collaborate seamlessly with other production professionals and marketing experts. Our commitment to teamwork and fostering strong partnerships is at the heart of what we do, ensuring every project is executed with creativity and precision.

What truly sets us apart is our proactive approach. We believe in anticipating challenges and staying ahead of the curve, rather than reacting to problems after they arise. This forward-thinking mindset allows us to deliver high-quality results while keeping projects on track and exceeding client expectations.

One of the achievements I’m most proud of is how our brand has become a magnet for aspiring production professionals. Students from schools like the University of Texas, Texas State, Austin Community College, and others regularly reach out to us, eager to learn and get involved with our work. This not only speaks to the growing recognition of our company but also validates that we’re doing things the right way, which creates an environment that inspires the next generation of filmmakers and creatives.
Teaching and mentoring these students is incredibly fulfilling. It’s more than just passing on technical skills; it’s about giving back to the community and fostering a culture of growth and collaboration. Knowing that our work inspires others and plays a role in shaping future talent is one of the most rewarding aspects of what we do.

In closing, we pride ourselves on offering flexibility to meet the unique needs of our clients. Whether it’s one-off projects for a specific campaign or ongoing, monthly retainer-style work for clients who require consistent video content and commercials, we adapt our approach to deliver exceptional results.

Going back to my previous point, a key part of our philosophy is rooted in being proactive rather than reactive. My ultimate goal is to ensure our clients get the absolute most out of their production days. By strategically planning shoots, we maximize the amount of content captured during each session, providing a wealth of material for multiple videos and campaigns. This approach not only saves our clients time and money but also ensures they have a library of high-quality content ready to deploy whenever they need it.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
My high school A/V teacher, Kerrie Thompson is who got me into production work and inspired me to study it in college.

I’ve always considered Erin Rees, with Think Big Productions to be my mentor. She is a Producer based in Houston and hired me for my first professional gig. I’ve always looked up to her and still call her for advice.

And my wife, Julie Brown is the best support system I could have ever asked for.
