Today we’d like to introduce you to Viktoria Silk
Hi Viktoria, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always loved music and singing since childhood, but started formal training for piano when I was around 10, and vocal lessons around 12. I was trained classically in both, singing opera, and playing classical piano. I attended Audio Engineering school where I became a certified Audio Engineer, and also started learning about production, and I ran with that. I found a love in producing and audio editing, which had initially had me more in Electronic Dance Music production. Over time, I started getting into songwriting and lyricism and started implementing it into my EDM tracks. Eventually I started going for a different sound and ended up merging into R&B world. I still produce many of my tracks, and they have some influence from my EDM days, but I also love collaborating with producers and just having fun with writing lyrics, melodies, and harmonies. I love performing live and telling my stories through my music, and hopefully relating to the people in the audience. I try to write about real topics, and things that I know, and that I know others have been through too.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I’d say overall it has been smooth, because I love creating music so much, that there hasn’t been a time where I would say I was struggling with being involved in music. I know I have a lot of room to grow and many more ears and eyes to reach, but I am working towards it, and steadily and organically trying to get people who genuinely like me and my music on board to join me in my music journey and enjoy the growth process together.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As I touched on earlier, I produce a good amount of the songs I release. I create the instrumentals, like the bass line, keys, synths, and other embellishments to craft the sound that I’m trying to achieve in my head, along with letting happy accidents happen along the way. I have a large library of virtual instruments that I utilize and like to get experimental, while keeping the vibes R&B over all. I love adventuring in all the different sub-genres of R&B, from traditional 80s/90s styles, to dark and alternative. I also love to play with my words lyrically. I do tend to sing about more sultry, risqué topics, but I try to do it in a way that isn’t just spelling it out, but letting my listeners imagination and mind get to the point I’m making.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
I think persistency and determination are my driving forces (aside from of course, my deep need to create music). I have the mindset that this is what I am meant to do, and that there is no other option for me but to create music and make a life around it. I also understand that it isn’t going to be handed to me and I can’t rely on luck, which is so important for anyone wanting success. I am constantly trying to improve myself in many different ways, not just musically, and I know that it will pay off.
