Daily Inspiration: Meet Breanna Hernandez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breanna Hernandez

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Hello!

My proudness started the year covid hit in 2020. I remember buying my Rebel T7 to take a few candid pictures here and there of little items I had laying around. Although that wasn’t my first time picking up a camera, I had to reteach myself the basics and used the automatic feature for a while. Nothing wrong with using the automatic feature, everyone has to start somewhere.

Fast forward to spring of 2021, I got myself a longer lens as my boyfriend who played collegiate baseball gave me the idea just to take pictures while I watch his game for fun. Little did I know that I would enjoy photographing sports and later on pursue it. As I got more involved with the school ( not mine, I had graduated from UTSA the semester prior) I started sharing my photos on my instagram and getting tagged in them as players posted them before or after games. As that season comes to an end, I get asked if I can photograph a few graduation pictures, of course I couldn’t deny it. With the first few graduation sessions I photographed, I felt some sort of empty space filled with joy. I had never felt that happiness nor knew that I had an empty space in my heart. As it may sound cheesy, photography was the missing piece. For the longest time, I felt as if I didn’t have a talent or a “cool” hobby to share.

As the year passes, time slows down, I get a full time job back in my hometown, Georgetown, Tx, my photography gets put to the side with life getting hectic and becoming busy with a 9-5. When my Boyfriend found out he has another year of eligibility of baseball, he accepted the offer and suggested I move down to Laredo with him and quit my job. Like a silly little girl, I did and I upgraded my gear because why not? Why save my money right.

We make it to Laredo and I try my hardest to advertise and get leads but with life being on the Lower end over there, less people were willing to pay anything. With that being the case, I stuck to photographing baseball pictures for the school. I met an amazing photographer who pushed me out of my comfort zone and to shoot in manual and since then, I have yet to look back.

He gave me some of the best advice that I still remember to this day. I stopped taking pictures because I was getting frustrated with some of them and he say “if you put that camera down, you may miss some of the best shots, enjoy the journey through the lens.”

A few years pass, I move back up to Round Rock with my Boyfriend, we get a place and work our new 9-5’s. Absolutely get lost and hate it. with more and more advertising, I get noticed for my work and decide to take the leap and quit my job yet another time and I have yet to go back. It has been the best 4 months being a full time photographer.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Out of all the obstacles I have face growing up, working a full time job while pursuing my bachelor degree being one of them, no journey has been smooth. If it was smooth, there would be a loot more successful people. Not saying that in a way to put others down, although, if its not challenging enough in my mindset, maybe its not the right path or its too easy.
To get to the part I am now, it took some sacrifices along with a ton of discipline. There would be days that I asked myself “is this really worth continuing?” To get back on track from little slumps like that, I found myself thinking of the future and what I really saw in that picture, workin a 9-5 was not in that image.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Starting off a a sports photographer and loving the action that it lead me to capture along with the smiles that were created on both the players and parents faces after seeing their child in action. I later on used my brother and his family as my models for a few sessions until people saw the story that was being told in each picture.

Any big plans?
The plans for the future are to continue telling stories for each family in each session. Right now, I have a few weddings lined up for he year which was a goal from little me a few years ago. After photographing a few weddings, I old love to branch out and travel to a couple states to move out there and become an elopement/ destination photographer while my boyfriend are still young and only have our corgi as a responsibility.
