Daily Inspiration: Meet Adeline Rock

Today we’d like to introduce you to Adeline Rock

Hi Adeline, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started wedding photography 8 years ago, after completing 14 internships around the Austin area. Candidly, I didn’t know what I wanted to do with my career growing up, just that I knew my heart absolutely had to be in it. I needed to feel like what I did mattered and brought happiness in whatever way possible. I got incredibly lucky finding this career.

I always had a love for photography, but even more so for being able to photograph beautiful memories + authentic love stories. Being a witness to such gorgeous human moments has been the biggest honor of my life.

After I wrapped up my final internship in 2017, I went straight into wedding photography full time, with the occasional shoot at companies like The Food Network & fashion week. There is so much that went into being where I am today, but the love I have for this job has been unlike anything I’ve ever experienced.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Of course not- life is full of ebbs and flows. But through any of the struggles or growing pains I’ve experienced during these 8 years, the passion for photographing moments of pure love and joy has been the overarching strength I’ve had to persist through any of those hardships.

I think the biggest struggle was trying to find balance, so I didn’t burn myself out. Honestly, because I love this job so much, the rose-colored glasses have caused so many moments of burnout, as with any creative career or something that you’re passionate about. But every moment of burnout is a learning opportunity. It can feel incredibly easy to forget to rest when your work genuinely doesn’t feel like work, but learning how to fill your creative cup so your clients can have the absolute best experience, is so incredibly important and a big part of growth within a career like this.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in wedding and engagement photography, with the occasional editorial or commercial shoot when I feel passionately about a unique project.

I feel most proud when I hear that a couple can feel the love from the photos I took of them or their loved ones. I am incredibly passionate about my clients being able to look at their photos, and want to be back in that moment, simply because of how that photo made them feel. It is a tremendous responsibility to be the one in charge of preserving those moments for eternity, and it is a responsibility I do not take lightly. It takes an incredible amount of trust to choose your wedding photographer, and earn the privilege of that trust? There is nothing that fills my heart more.

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I have! I completely opted out of college to pursue this business full time at 17. It has never been something I regretted, but you naturally will have people in your ear telling you that you need to go to college to be successful. Pro tip: If you feel confident in the passion you have for the creative career your heart longs for, you don’t need to listen to them.

I think risk is also so important creatively. Risk may actually BE the definition of creative. You cannot create something you’re proud of, in any capacity, without not only thinking outside the box, but sometimes throwing the entire box in the garbage. Some of my absolute favorite photos I’ve taken, have been when absolutely nothing went to plan and I had to think on my feet. This job pushes you to grow in a million different ways almost every time I get behind that lens, and I could not love it more.
