Today we’d like to introduce you to Miguel Jimenez
Hi Miguel, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Nomad started a concept between two partners, a world traveler for fun and curiosity and an airline pilot. Their love of the world and other cultures propelled them to make a place that customers could find beloved drinks found in other cultures but rarely here, in Austin TX. What happened was a mix of cultures languages drinks and generally a good time had by all, while learning something about a faraway land. Through the years we’ve hosted, weddings, birthday parties and of course, countless bands who have come from many countries as well.. We were the first neighborhood bar to stay open late night so we were quickly embraced by the neighborhood and city.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nomad, as any business, has not been a smooth ride at all. We’ve endured a zoning change, construction on roads nearby that impeded access to the bar, a pandemic, frozen/busted pipes and a growing of the city that quadrupled the amount of bars in our fine city. Not to mention a letter addition to our name, making it difficult for new patrons to find us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My name is Miguel Jimenez, and I am one of the owners of Nomad Bar, I went to college in San Marcos. I worked my way through college working at bars and restaurants to avoid student loans. It was at those places that I fell in lovee with the hospitality industry, so after college, trying the 9-5 grind in the tech sector, I went back to my love, this time as an owner. After Nomad, I opened other bars. 2 of which are still in operation.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success to me is finding joy in your job. As long as you enjoy going to work, you never have a job is how the saying goes.
