Today we’d like to introduce you to Kris Betts
Hi Kris, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I’ve loved telling stories through visual mediums for as long as I can remember. I moved a lot as a kid and learned early on how to approach new people and learn as much as I could about them. In my first career, I used my passion to craft stories about people as an Emmy award-winning journalist and news anchor in Austin, TX.
Now, I tell people’s stories in a different way by creating beautiful homes that reflect a family’s lifestyle and personality. When I started my interior design business, my number one priority was continuing to listen and collaborate with my clients just as I had always done with my news subjects. Instead of award-winning stories, now I create award-winning homes that reflect my client’s personalities and needs with an infused sense of beauty and function. It’s just as, (if not more) rewarding as my first career as a journalist. I love earning my client’s trust by listening to them and communicating clearly what our goals are throughout a project, from start to finish. I take my reputation very seriously, it’s what earned the trust of my news audience and now earns the trust of my design clients. They know that I’ll take care of any challenge in the remodeling and new-build process while working hand in hand with my incredible construction team. The absolute best part is seeing their faces once the install is complete. There’s no better feeling in the world than knowing I’m a part of creating someone’s home that they’ll be proud of for decades to come.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I transitioned from television to interior design during Covid because I felt like the news business wasn’t serving me or my family anymore. I realized my passion for creative storytelling was stripped away during the pandemic and I needed to make a serious change. I had been designing and remodeling homes for years after learning from my mom, who was an interior designer in Dallas. I’m truly happiest on a job site, working through any construction and design challenges as a team with builders/contractors and my clients. I’m so thankful for the experience of working so hard to achieve all that I did in my television news career because it gave me so many crucial skills that I use every day in interior design.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
I’m an interior designer in Austin, Texas specializing in whole-home remodeling, new construction design and furnishings. My passion comes from listening to my client’s wants and needs and using my honed sense of style to create homes that are not only beautiful, but also highly functional. As a mother of two, I know how important it is for a home to be practical with creative storage solutions and durable design choices. I’m most proud of the fact that I truly listen to my client’s needs and execute them in a way that is collaborative, smooth and hands-on. My clients can sleep easy at night knowing I will handle anything necessary to ensure a project is running smoothly and on budget. I can transform your home start to finish, from taking down or adding walls to new construction to furnishings, we are a full service interior design company working with some of the best craftspeople in Austin!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
I grew up on boats because my dad was such an avid sailor. One of my favorite childhood memories was spending a week on a catamaran in the Chesapeake Bay with my family of five. There was no internet, no TV. Just lots of time spent sailing, swimming, reading and sitting around playing games at night as the boat rocked slowly against the waves. Any time I get stressed or overwhelmed as an adult, coming back to the water and the sounds of a sailboat centers me immediately. It’s like a literal weight lifted off my shoulders when I’m back behind the helm, watching for the wind with the spray of the water on my face. There’s no better therapy!
