Today we’d like to introduce you to Stevie Gonzales
Hi Stevie, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
In the spring of 2020, just as the world was grappling with the onset of the global pandemic, I found myself facing an unexpected challenge: I had just been laid off from my corporate management role. With bills piling up and job opportunities scarce, especially with the uncertainty that COVID-19 brought, I knew I needed to make money fast. That’s when lashedupshawty was born.
At the time, I was already a consumer of beauty services, so the idea of starting a lash business wasn’t entirely foreign. I decided to take a leap and launch something of my own. I started by offering free lashes to friends, using them as models to practice and refine my technique. This initial phase was crucial—it allowed me to test whether this was something I could truly turn into a business while also building my confidence and skill set.
What began as a way to make ends meet quickly evolved into a passion project. It was humbling to see how much demand there was even during such an uncertain time.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a business was far from a smooth journey. As a first-generation business owner with limited resources to invest, I had to be incredibly resourceful. I dove into everything from understanding licensing and state regulations to mastering website design and digital marketing. But, the biggest challenge I faced in the early years wasn’t just the logistics—it was believing in myself and my business. There were moments of doubt and uncertainty, especially when it came to learning new skills or embracing new technologies that could propel the business forward. Change, after all, is never easy. But over time, I realized that pushing through those moments of discomfort and challenging myself was the key to growing my expertise and confidence.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Lashedupshawty is all about self-empowerment and fostering a strong sense of community. As an eyelash technician specializing in wispy sets, what truly sets me apart is the experience I offer each client, whether it’s your first visit or your second year with me. I am incredibly proud of the women I have the privilege of working with—they are truly the heart of everything I do. These women come from all different walks of life, and it’s so beautiful to witness how, at the end of the day, we all share so much in common. I want readers to know that if you’ve ever felt unsure about lash extensions or doubted their value, come see me. I just might be able to change your perspective.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Looking back, some of my best childhood memories are the summer camps my mom enrolled me in. At the time, I didn’t realize how special they were, but now I can see how lucky I was. Whether it was the Zachary Scott Theatre, Ballet Austin’s Academy, The Paramount Theatre Program, or other amazing opportunities Austin has to offer for children/teens. My mom made sure I had a chance to explore my interests. I’m really grateful to her for giving me those experiences, even if I didn’t fully appreciate them back then. Thanks, Mom!
