Today we’d like to introduce you to Effy Harvard
Hi Effy, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have been writing poetry and singing as long as I can remember. Never making any works public until 2024, I’ve had years and years of self development and time to sit into my individuality. Feeling the time run away, I decided to let my dreams take the lead instead of my anxiety, putting my debut single out in 2024. Cold messaging producers, most messages live unopened, but I have struck luck with my persistence. I have two projects in the horizon I am excited to release into the ether! A heartbreak ballad leaning in the classic country pocket, arriving March 21, and an upbeat tune coming out right in time for summer. I’ve moved back to Texas, enjoying the magical town of Austin, and will be playing a show near you so soon!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh! Absolutely. First, my struggle has been my self doubt and feeling unsure of how I could measure up with all the incredible artists. It’s taken time to believe and know I have a unique perspective and style, and I am now excited to share my music with the humans I get to connect with. Another issue, maybe I shouldn’t talk about it, but if someone else has gone through it, just know you’re not alone and it should never stop you. But, I have had a producer promise me the world and releases we had recorded, continuing to string me along for an entire year just to ghost. All my projects were halted beyond my control, and I felt lost and defeated. Luckily, I got back up and found new creatives to redo these songs I believe in. I will be forever grateful for the extra year I had in artist development, and the producers who showed up for me.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am leaned into an era of country that I resonate naturally with, 50s 60s classic country. The raw emotions, cheeky songwriting, and chord progressions that are often forgotten about. My style is also in alignment from that time, it feels as though I was there in another lifetime, pin curls and cat eyeliner feels like home. I am more known for my modeling career, starring in campaigns from Hanes, Aviator Nation, Urban Outfitters, SavagexFenty, to name a few! Being on set gave me time to brainstorm how I would creatively direct the shot, the team, location, glam etc.
In terms of your work and the industry, what are some of the changes you are expecting to see over the next five to ten years?
I hope far away from AI. Algorithms and faux computerized voices take away the beauty of the art. Other than that, I see women having a major moment in Country, a place that has been male dominated for so long. Ella Langley and Megan Moroney have begun the shift, and I love to see it.
