Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexander Novicki.
Hi Alexander, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Since I was young, I’ve always wanted to help people. I used to volunteer with big brother’s big sisters, at the local hospital, and with Salvation Army. I didn’t realize this until later, but when I was about 16 years old, I injured my knee skateboarding and I tried stretching, and I was researching different things I could do and a lot of self massage helped more than anything.
Fast-forward like 10 years, to living in the beautiful Austin, Texas. I’ve been working in food and coffee and I hit a wall. I realize that I wasn’t helping people with the job that I was at the way that I wanted to. So I left that day and took the bus to the Massage school that was in town. No research, just headed there and talk to the administrative person about enrolling. Class started in three days and I was there.
They said in school “ don’t quit your day job” so I got licensed and then I quit my day job.
I worked a few places and then the pandemic hit. I hit another wall. I need to set the side if I was gonna keep moving forward.
So I rented a space quit my job and started on my own. Since it was a pandemic, I couldn’t see clients so I made this Instagram to help people in the meantime.
People shared and reposted my content and it’s been growing ever since.
It’s also helped my business quite a bit because from a clients perspective if I’m able to help people with their pain, my body work can do the same for their chronic pain issues.
I’m really lucky to be where I am today. People and community have amazed me the amount of support that I get I never imagined. And the amount of people that wanna feel better and take care of themselves make me wanna cry.
It’s so incredible because I know how hard it is to put yourself second and not know any other way
Sorry to get so sappy but my goal has been wanting to help people for a long time and now I’m doing it and I’m doing a good job because there’s people that come to me in pain and now they’re out running marathons, working out, doing the things that they wanna do that they couldn’t do before. I’m sorry if I sound full of myself, but my job rocks. And I’m so grateful.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Working as a massage, therapist at most places, do not pay well. So starting off, I was making next to nothing working seven days a week and just trying to get after it.
And then fast forward to 2020
January February and then boom everything closed. I rented my space in January 2020.
It was a while time, but then this thing started opening back up. I was slowly able to build my business which almost put me at the same position as everybody else in my industry. Pretty crazy.
Other than that, I work hard to keep a good clientele by marketing and putting myself out there. There’s sometimes during the year that are slow that just means I need to work harder and some parts of the year are very busy which is super fun.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a massage therapist that specializes in fascia. For the work that I do my clients are fully clothed, and we work with the nervous system, not against it. So it’s not painful just sensational and your comfort is top priority because everyone is so vastly different.
Brand wise, I am proud of my T-shirts and when someone says hello to me that follows me on Instagram they call me “the fascia guy”, this makes me happy.
Oh also, I tell people to relax their shoulders.
I want readers to know that self-care is essential for living the best life. Pain takes away time that you cannot get back.
Stress can cause the fascia in the body to tighten up and keep our nervous system in a state of fight or flight causing pain. It’s no good.
So get bodywork, do yoga, drink water, do squats, relax the shoulders, and breathe.
You deserve to feel your best always
I offer one hour one and a half hour and two hour bodywork sessions. I also offer virtual sessions where we talk on Zoom and I show you how to address anything that’s bothering you.
I also have an incredible newsletter through sub stack, it’s five dollars a month and every other week is a follow along self-care video session.
What’s next?
I would like to grow my newsletter audience because I can say this on here, but Instagram isn’t great for the mind or nervous system. So I’d rather try to make it a better place, but also pivot to sub stack.
I would also like to do some trainings with fellow massage therapist
And I want to continue doing bodywork and helping people feel their best for as long as I can
