Rising Stars: Meet Beth Coffey of Austin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Coffey.

Hi Beth, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Beth Coffey is an 6th generation Texan and Austin icon. She is a professional dancer, performer, teacher, and The Ambassador of traditional Texas dance and on the cover of January 2025 Austin Monthly Magazine.

Beth has been dancing and teaching traditional Texas-style Two-Step in her hometown — the Live Music Capital of the World — to her family ranch in Marfa Texas for over a decade. She has instructed hundreds of out-of-towners, locals, and even astronauts how to dance.

Born with boots on in west Texas, Beth Coffey is an accomplished dancer. She has performed on set with Hollywood filmmakers and TV directors

Beth is married to Austin-based musician, Joe Jerkins. This talented duo promotes Texas culture through dance and music and can often be seen in commercials and music videos performing together, and on the cover of the Austin Monthly. Don’t miss her latest spotlight on NBC’s Today with Hoda & Jenna Show.

Teaching Texas dance is Beth’s way of keeping the culture of live music and dancing alive in Austin. It is a dream that requires work but is worth it for her and Joe’s 6-year-old daughter, Betsy Duke, to have the chance to dance in the future.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Beth came to dancing as a way of healing after a roll over accident in 2004 left her with a broken neck and a long road of recovery. The dance community helped me heal my body and heart though the joy of dancing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I have been proclaimed the Ambassador of the texas two step in austin by the mayor. i am a native texan teaching the dance of my people and keeping the tradition alive by dancing to actual live musicians

Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
“If it’s not you, then who?” This is a question i ask myself if i start to doubt my ability or feel imposter syndrome coming on. it is my unwavering belief in myself and my self confidence that has lead me to where i am today.
