Today we’d like to introduce you to Ricardo Javier Cortez.

Hi Ricardo Javier, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From Garage Chair to Celebrity Barber: How One Austin Native Built a Barbershop Empire by 23

by Ricardo Javier Cortez known as (Javierblendz)

At just 23 years old, I became the proud owner of Sacrifices Hair Studio, a modern barbershop in the heart of Austin, Texas. But the story behind the studio goes far beyond its polished resin floors and premium grooming services. It’s a story rooted in discipline, hustle, and years of dedication to the craft of barbering.
My journey began at 17, when I earned my barbering license and made the decision to go all-in on a profession that had already become a passion. I started small—cutting hair in my parents garage with limited tools but unlimited drive. Those early days weren’t glamorous, but they were foundational. Every cut was an opportunity to improve, to connect, and to build a name for myself, one client at a time.
As my skills developed, so did my reputation. I quickly transitioned from home setups to some of the most well-regarded barbershops in Austin and Kyle, including Barber Palace, Austin’s Most Wanted Barbershop, Fadebox Barbershop, and Profile Hair Studios. Working in these high-caliber environments taught me more than just technical precision. I learned the nuances of client service, brand building, and the business mechanics behind successful barbering.
Over time, my clientele grew to include local influencers, artists, athletes and high-profile figures, turning what once was a side hustle into a full-fledged career. But no matter how far I came, I never lost sight of the bigger vision: creating a space of my own. A place that reflected my journey, values, and dedication to the culture of barbering.
In 2025, I brought that vision to life with Sacrifices Hair Studio—a name that speaks directly to the path it took to get here. The long hours, the early mornings, the commitment to growth even when no one was watching. Sacrifices aren’t just part of the process—they are the foundation of it.
Today, Sacrifices Hair Studio stands not only as a premium grooming destination but as a creative space that represents ambition, resilience, and the next generation of entrepreneurship in Austin’s evolving barber scene. And while I’m proud of what I’ve built so far, I see this as just the beginning of something even greater.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all—it’s been far from a smooth road. In the beginning, one of the biggest challenges was building trust. I had to give out countless free haircuts just to prove myself. I wasn’t getting paid for my time or skill, but I knew that earning people’s trust was more valuable than any dollar amount early on. Every free cut was an investment in my reputation and future.

Another major challenge was simply being young and inexperienced. I had no roadmap for turning a passion into a legitimate career. I didn’t know how to navigate the business side of barbering—everything from managing bookings to understanding branding and professionalism. I made a lot of mistakes, but I was committed to learning.

As I got older, I took it upon myself to study the craft and the business behind it. I learned through experience, observation, and surrounding myself with barbers who inspired me. Over time, what started as a hobby turned into a full-blown career and, ultimately, a business. Those early struggles were tough, but they taught me discipline, resilience, and the value of patience.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I’m a licensed professional barber and the founder of Sacrifices Hair Studio, located in Austin, Texas. My work centers on delivering high-end grooming services with precision, professionalism, and a personal touch. I specialize in modern fades, detailed linework, beard sculpting, and custom styles tailored to each individual’s look and lifestyle.

Over the years, I’ve built a reputation for consistency, clean craftsmanship, and a deep commitment to client experience. Beyond the shop, I’m also known for offering exclusive housecall haircuts for high-profile clients and celebrities. I’ve had the opportunity to work with international names such as Chino Pacas—signed to JOP’s Street Mob Records, Lunay, a globally recognized Puerto Rican Latin artist, and Lando Norris, F1 driver for Team McLaren. These experiences reflect the level of trust and professionalism I bring to every appointment, whether it’s in a studio or backstage before a major event.

What I’m most proud of is opening Sacrifices Hair Studio at just 23 years old. The shop represents more than just a business—it’s a product of years of hard work, personal growth, and the sacrifices it took to turn a passion into a sustainable career. Every detail of the studio was built with purpose, reflecting the journey it took to get here.

What sets me apart is my commitment to going above and beyond—not just in the quality of my cuts, but in how I build relationships, show up for my clients, and continue to evolve as both a barber and business owner. I’m not just cutting hair—I’m creating experiences and building a brand that stands for excellence, loyalty, and authenticity.
