Daily Inspiration: Meet Colleen Flynn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Colleen Flynn.

Hi Colleen, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I always say that Nutritional Zest was born out of necessity—because for years, I was the person just trying to push through life, ignoring the signs my body was screaming at me. I dealt with chronic digestive issues, burnout, anxiety, hormone imbalances, insomnia… you name it. I felt terrible and like my body was broken.
At the time, I was living in D.C., working in a high-stress environment, and constantly in survival mode. It wasn’t until I started digging into functional nutrition and circadian biology that everything shifted. I realized that true healing doesn’t come from quick fixes—it comes from understanding your body, supporting it at the root level, and rebuilding your life in alignment with how we’re biologically meant to live.
I moved to Austin and I launched Nutritional Zest as my passion project. I wanted to create the kind of support system I wish I had during my own health journey. Since then, my practice has grown into a team-based, root-cause-focused functional nutrition practice where we support clients across the U.S. and Canada. We specialize in gut health, hormone balance, sustainable weight loss, and the deeper mindset and lifestyle shifts required for true, lasting change.
Looking back, the struggles were the greatest gift—because they gave me purpose. And now I get to help others reconnect with their bodies and feel like themselves again, often for the first time in years.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Building Nutritional Zest has been one of the most rewarding things I’ve ever done — but like any business, it’s come with its fair share of growing pains. I’m so grateful the practice grew quickly and was embraced by the community, but it’s definitely been a learning process along the way.

One of the biggest challenges came during COVID. Before that, my practice was entirely in-person, so when everything shut down I had to pivot fast and move everything online. It was stressful in the moment, but honestly, it turned out to be a huge blessing. Going virtual has allowed me to work with clients across the country, and I wouldn’t go back. As the practice grew, there were also some real learning curves — hiring a team, refining our systems, upgrading our tech. Growth is always a mix of exciting and messy, but I truly believe every challenge we faced just helped confirm that this is exactly what I’m meant to be doing.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Nutritional Zest is a functional nutrition practice based in Austin, working with clients all over the country and abroad virtually. We specialize in gut health, hormone balancing (including perimenopause), sustainable weight loss, and digestive issues — all from a root-cause, functional medicine perspective. What really sets us apart is that we go way beyond just meal plans and supplements.

At Nutritional Zest, we take a deeper look at your entire health story. We use advanced lab testing and personalized protocols to figure out why symptoms are happening in the first place — and then we create a plan that addresses the real root causes. I’m most proud of the fact that we don’t hand out cookie-cutter advice. We listen closely. We educate. We empower our clients to fully understand their bodies. Whether it’s healing the gut, balancing hormones, or shifting long-standing patterns, our work is about transformation — not just symptom relief.
