Inspiring Conversations with Lori Neathery of Thrifty Goat Graphics

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Neathery.

Hi Lori, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, I’m Lori — Graphic Designer and Founder of Thrifty Goat Graphics. With over 20 years of experience in creating custom designs, I officially launched Thrifty Goat Graphics in 2023 to bring my creative vision to life under my own banner.
My passion for the arts began early, from crafting in Girl Scouts to becoming known in high school for my Photoshop skills. I originally pursued a degree in Fine Arts, but after being told that most artists become “starving artists,” I was motivated to find a sustainable path for my future. That drive led me to study Graphic Arts, where I gained a solid foundation in typography, digital illustration, and design software.

Despite my training, I faced challenges breaking into the industry due to a lack of hands-on experience outside of school. I began working in the shipping department of a local sign shop, where I eventually advanced to a full-time graphic designer, producing nearly, if not more than, 40 custom designs daily.

After many years in that role—and following both a profound loss of a step child, my wifes oldest son, as well as the disruptions of the COVID-19 pandemic— My amazing and supportive wife and I decided it was time for a the next chapter. With her support and encouragement, I took the leap, quit my 9 to 5 job, and started Thrifty Goat Graphics. Our company name is inspired by our love for thrift shopping, and the memory of our son Griffin who his friends referred to as the “GOAT”. Today, I channel my experience, resilience, and creativity into making unique, high-quality designs for clients all over the country.

We’re a proudly LGBTQ+ and women-owned small business nestled in the heart of the Hill Country. From local startups to nationwide brands, we’ve had the pleasure of partnering with amazing clients across Central Texas and beyond. Whether it’s crafting custom logos or printing everything from apparel to promotional products, we love bringing creative visions to life. We’ve worked with neighbors, friends, family, and even a few famous faces—because no project is too big or too small when it comes to building something great together.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Life has brought its fair share of challenges—like many, we’ve navigated the impacts of COVID and personal losses within our family. Through it all, we’ve kept our passion alive and continue to run our business from home. It’s our dream to one day build a dedicated studio right here on our property—an inspiring space to work, meet with clients, and showcase the projects we’re so proud of.

As you know, we’re big fans of Thrifty Goat Graphics. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?

How do you think about luck?
We’ve had our ups and downs, but we like to keep our focus on the positive. Every challenge has only made us stronger, and we truly believe that good things are ahead. With hard work, heart, and a little bit of luck, we’re setting our sights on a bright, prosperous future and we’re excited to keep growing, creating, and connecting with even more amazing people along the way.
