Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel U’Ren.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
1980 English baby,
1990 teen years in the Netherlands.
1996 decided that what else could a poor boy do, but join a. Rock and roll band. Picked up the guitar.
1997 California Hs senior
1999 cagaus, PR. Exile event
2000 joined the US NAVY as Seaman UREN. Shared many laughs: about that:)
Became a public relations specialist & puesdo-journalist. More of a propagandist.
2001 stationed aboard the USS ABRAHAM LINCOLN.
2003 297 days at sea. Sailed 6-7 oceans, 4 continents.. 2 operations, OEF & OIL,, 13 medals, a deep thirst for alcohol, a didgeridoo in Australia. Loss of faith in humanity, daily, a divorce, yada yada
2005 retired from the navy, moved to California. Met some cool beatniks all over.
2008 -2013 – traveled the world.
2013 moved to Texas
2016 moved to Austin. Feel immediately infatuated with it. Feel in love on daily basis.
2021 Covid really fucked me.
2025 back in Austin. Playing music. Collaborating with musicians & artists all over the city. Seeing the sights. And just being content.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Smooth is something I would use to describe tequila, not any roads I’ve known. I have had trails and tributaries. I’ve seen things, that have changed me on the spot. The kindness of people’s hearts will bring you to tears. Thoughts of bitterness & negativity are contagions, misery loves company, so choose your company you want to keep. I took risks, I failed, I forged my own chains, for a good decade. And that’s when the music saved me, and that’s why I am still here.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I developed a deep love and appreciation for music and that it possessed the ability to make humans dance and relate. The human condition is heavy, and sometimes it’s hard to see. Music will always guide you. Not all music:) but you’ll know it when you really truly give it a listen.
I’m proud of the compliments I’ve received from the Austin community. In the beginning, I felt if I could go try and inspire anyone else through my art, than I could do it for myself. So when someone stops and tells me I’ve inspired them or that they love me, that is special. And I manifested that. So that’s special, to me
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
Diplomatic immunity is a real thing. So always try the diplomatic route. Don’t make your own friction, the world will take care of that for you. Don’t blow smoke up folks arses, and try to recognize when that is being done to you. Some folks will dilly dally, be patient, but don’t die at a red stop light. be present with everyone you care about. Expression & Passion go well together. Be confident in yourself. Criticize constructively. And lower your expectations, from now on in. Forever. Disappointment is a feather in your cap.
