Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Johnson.
Courtney, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started my career in sports marketing, juggling brand campaigns by day and dancing as a professional cheerleader by night. That led to two years on reality TV—yes, really—which taught me more about storytelling and personal branding than any textbook ever could.
After that wild chapter, I pivoted into marketing full-time and eventually became the go-to strategist for tech startup founders and Fortune 500 execs who wanted to build personal brands with a real voice.
Then came TikTok. I started posting “Problematic Career Cheat Codes”—little rants about how outdated career advice was keeping people stuck. It blew up. Millions of views, thousands of DMs, a book deal, and over $100K in brand deals later, I realized this wasn’t just content—it was a movement.
Now I help ambitious creators, misfits, and multi-hyphenates get loud about their work and build lives that actually feel good to live. I live in Austin with my partner and two dogs, and I still believe your dream job is probably one LinkedIn post away.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not a smooth road—and honestly, I wouldn’t trust anyone who says it has been.
There were moments I felt completely lost. I quit jobs without a backup plan. I burned out trying to prove my worth in rooms where I was never meant to shrink myself to fit. I second-guessed every post, wondering if I sounded “too much” or “not enough.” I had months where I was broke and deeply confused about my purpose. And plenty of nights I questioned if any of it would actually work.
One of the hardest things was unlearning the idea that success had to look a certain way—linear, corporate, polished. Mine looked like detours, breakdowns, rebrands, and a LOT of ugly crying on the bathroom floor.
So no, it hasn’t been smooth. But it’s been real. And that’s what I’m proud of.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
What I do is a mix of content strategy, brand storytelling, and audience growth consulting. But what I really do is help people own the hell out of who they are online—so they can attract the clients, opportunities, and communities they’ve been craving.
I’m most proud of how many people have told me, “You helped me stop hiding.” Whether it’s helping someone land their first paid speaking gig, go viral on LinkedIn, or finally pitch themselves with confidence—those shifts are everything.
