Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan Heller.
Hi Morgan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I knew that I wanted to be a veterinarian at a young age. I grew up working on a horse farm, and my family always had pets. I loved science and animals, and when you’re a kid, that equals being a veterinarian! As I got older and gained more experience in the field, I discovered how tough it can be for many reasons. But that just made me want to stick with my goal even more. I went to Penn State for my undergraduate degree in Animal Science. I was blessed to receive an Army ROTC scholarship and commissioned as an Army Officer when I graduated. The Army has a program that allows some health professionals to request an educational delay of service to complete additional schooling after college. This program allowed me to attend veterinary school before starting my active duty service. I went to Ohio State for veterinary school and graduated in 2019. After graduating, I served in the Army Veterinary Corps for 5 years. While in the Army, I got to do some very cool things like take care of Military Working Dogs, rappel out of a helicopter at Air Assault School, and deploy to Africa for 10 months. After 5 years, I decided I wanted to call Central Texas home. I left the Army and have been practicing as a small animal veterinarian in the area since then. Now, I am so excited for my newest adventure. I’ll be opening a new veterinary clinic, PetVet365 Georgetown, as a co-owner this Summer!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Looking back, I can see the meaning of the challenges and hard times along the way. There were some difficult times while I served in the military; sometimes, those times feel insurmountable until you’re on the other side. I have a million unforgettable memories and would never trade that experience or the people I met. However, the military requires you to spend lots of time away from family and puts you in many stressful situations. Inevitably, you lose people you care about in heartbreaking ways. That part was hard. It made me truly value my mental health and want to create a space where the people whose lives I can touch feel safe, supported, and valued.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
PetVet365 Georgetown is the “vet your pet dreams about.” We will be opening this Summer in Georgetown/Round Rock! We are both veterinarian and female-owned. We offer preventative care, urgent care, diagnostics, surgical care, dental care, and behavioral care. In addition to our weekday hours, we are also open on weekends (Saturday AND Sunday) to serve our patients and their pet parents’ needs. What I am most proud of is that our clinic is Fear Free – meaning that ALL of our staff are certified in Fear Free strategies to minimize your dog or cat’s anxiety about going to the vet. The whole clinic is designed with this concept in mind. Instead of cold exam rooms with scary metal tables, you’ll find comfy couches in our private suites. We don’t have a loud, stressful waiting room where you wait for your appointment. Just text us when you arrive, and we’ll meet you at the door to escort you to your pet’s private suite, complete with snacks and coffee for humans and a treat buffet for cats and dogs. We also offer optional VIP membership plans, which allow members even more convenient access to veterinary care. They include benefits like after-hours texting for medical questions, no exam fees, and the opportunity to break up yearly preventative care into monthly payments. I think this makes great veterinary care more accessible!
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
When I was a kid I used to take horseback riding lessons on the farm I worked on. For a while I rode this really cute, chubby, little Haflinger pony. He had the absolute funniest personality and he used to eat chicken nuggets. As a veterinarian now…you shouldn’t feed ponies chicken nuggets – but since I was 8 years old, I didn’t know that yet!
