Today we’d like to introduce you to Christina Woodall.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Behind 309 Coffee are six owners—three couples who moved to Georgetown with a collective dream of creating a gathering place grounded in connection and coffee. The first time we visited Georgetown, we felt instantly connected, and that visit quickly turned into a calling.
All of us decided to move to Georgetown and put down roots to make our vision of 309 a reality. One of the founding couples, Karen and David Melles, owned a rental property at 309 S. Main Street. We saw potential in the space and began the process of rezoning and renovating the home, transforming it, with a lot of hands-on work, into a space that would become 309 Coffee.
We officially opened in early 2019, and since then, 309 has grown into more than just a coffee shop, though the coffee is excellent—it’s become a hub for connection in Georgetown. From the start, our goal was to build a place where people feel welcome. Whether it’s students studying, friends catching up on the patio, or community groups gathering in the backyard, we love seeing 309 become a part of people’s daily rhythm.
It’s been an adventure, and we’re so grateful for the way Georgetown has embraced us. We’re proud to be a small business rooted in connection, creativity, and community.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road, but those challenges have shaped who we are and how we operate. Like many small businesses, COVID hit just a year after we opened our doors. Suddenly, we were faced with the question of how to stay afloat when everything around us shut down. We had to get creative—offering curbside service, adjusting our menu, and doing everything we could to keep our team employed and our community connected, even from a distance. It was a season that stretched us, but it also reminded us why we started in the first place.
Another unique aspect of our journey is having six owners—three couples—which naturally means a lot of voices, perspectives, and ideas. In the early days, that sometimes looked like too many cooks in the kitchen. But over time, we’ve found our rhythm and learned to lean into each other’s strengths. We each bring something different to the table, whether it’s business strategy, design, community outreach, or day-to-day operations, and that diversity is part of what makes 309 so special. Our trust and friendship has grown alongside the business, and we’ve built something stronger because of it.
We’ve been impressed with 309 Coffee, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Located just off the Square in Georgetown, we serve high-quality, thoughtfully crafted coffee, tea, matcha, beer, and wine in a space designed to feel like home. We’re especially proud of our coffee—it’s expertly roasted and brewed with care to deliver a consistently exceptional cup, whether you’re grabbing a quick espresso or savoring a slow pour-over.
We also partner with beloved local favorites to round out the experience, serving pastries from Easy Tiger and breakfast tacos from San Pedro Limón, making mornings here even better.
The environment we’ve created really sets us apart: warm, welcoming, and rooted in connection. Whether it’s your morning caffeine stop, your favorite remote work spot, or the place you meet up with friends or family, we want people to feel like they belong here. We’re open seven days a week from 7 AM to 7 PM, making it easy to stop in whenever your day needs a boost.
We’re known for our intentional hospitality, our cozy and inviting space, and our focus on community. We host everything from student study sessions and casual coffee dates to live music and group meetups. Our team is the heartbeat of what we do—they’re kind, creative, and care deeply about making every guest feel seen and valued.
Brand-wise, we’re most proud of staying true to our original vision. From the start, our goal was to create a space where people feel connected to each other, to the city, and to something bigger than themselves. We’ve worked hard to build a brand that reflects that: simple, welcoming, and grounded in meaningful relationships.
If there’s one thing we want readers to know, it’s that 309 is for everyone. Whether you’re a Georgetown local or just passing through, we hope you’ll stop in, grab a drink, and stay awhile.
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
