Today we’d like to introduce you to Madison Williams.
Madison, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’m an original Austinite and local salon owner who grew up in the industry and now co-own a salon with my parents (Keith and Kris). My parents opened the salon 22 years ago. I found my passion in haircutting when formally entering the industry but never thought I would be interested in ownership. After a few years in, I found that I loved to teach other stylists. It’s the lightbulb moments in teaching that made me feel like I could also lead a team and help other stylists turn their love for the craft into a lucrative career for themselves.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
We’ve been family owned and operated for 22 years and as you can guess, working with family is never easy but nobody wants to see you succeed more than your parents. We’ve faced challenges in the economy multiple times, went through the covid shut downs that took out some other local business but I’ve always found the biggest challenge is remembering to communicate the “why” with each other on a daily basis. Why we got into business and why we continue. I want to maintain a profitable business to sustain my family and the families of my stylists while having a fun time doing great hair.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I fell in love with this industry for the craft of doing amazing hair that lasts as long as possible for my clients. I specialize in haircuts that stand the test of time and I work with every hair type. My clients typically only get one to two haircuts a year but may see me for a quick touch up in-between. I also love working with the hair’s natural texture to create a look that needs minimal styling and upkeep for my clients. I’ve recently fallen back in love with doing extensions and perms to create a natural looking curl. I enjoy changing things up in my skill set to keep myself inspired.
What matters most to you?
People. The people you work with, for and alongside can make or break your day and your business. I hire for personality and train for skill. I also prefer clients who want to make meaningful connection. If you sit down in my chair I want to know how you want your cut to make you feel and what you want your overall style to say about you. If you work for me, I want to know what gets you excited and how I can help you enjoy your career while working at our salon.
