Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Bilger.
Hi Andrew, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Adega Vinho was founded by brothers, Andy and Michael Bilger in 2016. Their dream was to create a family business in which we grow our own wine grapes and produce/sell our wines on-site thru our tasting room. We use 100% Texas-grown fruit, and focus heavily on Portuguese grape varieties grown right here in Texas. We began planting vines in 2017 and opened our tasting room in 2020. Our focus when it comes to farming and wine production is low intervention, small batch and sustainably grown and produced wines.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Well, we opened in January of 2020, so our first year of business was during the pandemic. It was an interesting start for sure, and we had to learn to adapt to navigate the uncharted waters. Fortunately, locals showed to up to support their local wineries and kept us going!
Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My family, who have been part of the business since the beginning and our team.
