Today we’d like to introduce you to Martina Christian.
Hi Martina, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’ve always thrived in roles where organization, communication, and creativity come together. After earning an MBA, I spent several years teaching and also owned and operated a large nonprofit youth sports organizaton overseeing all operations, events, and logistics. My husband, Brenton, has owned a successful painting and drywall company for over 22 years. I wanted to be more involved in our family’s growing ventures, so I shifted my focus to manage the operational side of the business. During Covid, many clients began to request carpentry, tile work and full kitchen or bathroom remodels. The requests for these projects became so frequent that we decided to launch a separate company, Bespoke Design Build, dedicated to remodeling and custom homes. As a certified True Colour Expert, I have been able to bring my creative side to this business, helping clients choose paint colors, tiles, and finishes they love. Brenton leads most of the day to day operations while I keep the business organized and step in for design consultations when needed. I love the flexibility my role gives me and am working toward building a stronger presence as a design consultant, with the goal of creating finished spaces I can proudly put my name on.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. When we launched Bespoke Design Build, we were essentially stepping into a new industry, so there was a learning curve in figuring out systems, processes, and vendor relationships that worked for us. We also opened during a time when supply chain issues, labor shortages, and unpredictable material costs were hitting the construction world hard. In fact, we are still dealing with some of these. Balancing an established business while trying to grow a new one took some trial and error, but each challenge forced us to become more resourceful and more intentional about the projects we take on.
As you know, we’re big fans of Bespoke Design Build. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Bespoke Design Build is a luxury remodeling and custom home building company specializing in high end residential projects. We offer complete kitchen and bathroom remodels to full custom builds. While many of our projects are in luxury estates, we also work with everyday homeowners who value quality and attention to detail. Most of our clients come through referrals, which we take as a huge compliment. We’ve also been entrusted with projects for high profile and high net worth homeowners, where discretion and professionalism are essential. What truly sets us apart is the quality of our work and the relationships we build. What was your favorite childhood memory?
In the 90s, I sponge painted my bedroom all by myself because it was the on trend thing to do. At the time, I was so proud and all my friends were impressed. Looking back at the pictures now, it was pretty hideous! I guess you could say it was my first dabble in design.
