Hi Jimmy, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’m Jimmy Sanchez — born and raised in Austin, Texas, a city layered with culture, creativity, and grit. My grandma proudly says her family’s been here “since Texas was Mexico,” and that kind of legacy runs in my veins. She even says herself shes from“Texaco” — part Texas, part Mexico — and that dual heritage shows up in everything I do.
I come from a family of entrepreneur-hustlers. My parents sold used cars and worked tow trucks. While I didn’t follow that path, their work ethic lives in me. I’ve always been the creative one — the only openly gay person in a big family, and an uncle to ten — so I learned early how to walk my own path and hold space for others.
I’ve been an artist my whole life. I play piano, used to lead the high school band on trumpet, design and tailor my own outfits, and most recently, I taught myself woodworking. Art is how I think, how I connect, and how I create meaning. That spirit fuels my career.
Today, I’m Austin’s only exclusive K-tip extension specialist. K-tips are a strand-by-strand method that takes real patience and precision — and I thrive on that kind of detail. I wear K-tips myself (but never reveal all my secrets), and let’s just say my look is part of the in-person experience.
Before K-tips, I did it all — platinum blondes, fades, wigs, drag styling. I’ve worked backstage at New York Fashion Week and built a rep as the stylist who can handle pressure and bring a vision to life. But it wasn’t until I joined The Rich Stylist Academy that I found the clarity to go all-in on my niche — creating stunning, seamless transformations for women doing big things.
I live with compassion, too. I’ve been vegetarian for years, and I try to infuse that same intentionality into how I care for others, the planet, and myself. My little white Pomeranian is my daily reminder to walk slow and celebrate small joys — and yes, she’s also my unofficial wig model on TikTok. Who knows, maybe she’ll build her own beauty empire one day.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not exactly — but every detour taught me something valuable.
Growing up queer in a traditional, macho environment wasn’t easy. My family didn’t always know how to support me, but I know now they were trying to protect me from a world they feared wouldn’t be kind. I had to carve my own lane and learn how to stand fully in who I am — even when I was doing it alone.
On the business side, 2020 was a major turning point. I was in two car accidents that year, and just as I was gaining momentum again, I was forced to slow down. That time in recovery made me realize I wasn’t attracting the kind of hair extension clients I wanted. I had to shift from survival mode into strategy mode.
That’s when I found The Rich Stylist Podcast, and eventually joined The Rich Stylist Academy — a private mentorship and community that changed everything. I stopped operating like a stylist and started leading like the CEO of my brand. That mindset shift allowed me to build systems, raise my standards, and start attracting the guests I truly wanted to serve.
Since then, I’ve worked smarter, collaborated with other specialists, and leaned into my strengths. I’ve built a wide network in Austin and love referring clients to trusted pros — stylists are often walking Rolodexes! Now, I’m thinking like an entrepreneur. For me, success is alignment — with my values, my art, and the way I move through the world.
It looks like having the freedom to design my day: play piano, make a new outfit, go shopping without stressing about price tags, and still have time to be with my loved ones. It’s about choice. And it’s about being seen for who I really am — not just as a stylist, but as an artist, visionary, and entrepreneur.
