Today we’d like to introduce you to Nevin Spinosa.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve always loved movement; from my early days as a competitive dancer to running the NYC Marathon in 2013. It wasn’t until I became a full-time working mom of two boys that I truly realized how essential fitness was to my entire life. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally. I taught fitness classes part-time and those moments energized and fueled me throughout my week.
Before starting Dripping Sweat, I spent years as a middle school math teacher and school administrator. My heart has always been in growth, empowerment, and education… not just for students, but for teachers and communities as a whole. That work shaped who I am today. It taught me how to build trust, meet people where they are, and help them believe they can do hard things.
After moving to Texas, I knew that I wanted to show my boys what it looked like to try new things, to do what scares you, and to persevere through challenges with grit. Fitness has given me the clarity, strength, and stamina I’ve needed to show up for them through my toughest times. And that’s what I want to give back to others.
I launched Dripping Sweat with one goal in mind: to help women feel empowered, strong, and supported through fitness. Whether you’re just starting out or have been on this journey for years, my mission is to create a space where you can show up as you are, leave stronger than you came, and feel proud of what your body can do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Building something from the ground up is hard. There’s no roadmap, no instruction manual. It’s just a whole lot of learning as you go and I’m beyond thankful for the community in Dripping Springs who are there to offer support and advice from their experience. While starting Dripping Sweat, I’ve had to be an instructor, marketer, scheduler, social media manager, customer service rep… While that kind of hustle can be exhausting, the feeling I get when a client ends class and says, “That was SO great… exactly what I needed,” makes all the late nights and early mornings worth it. It’s what keeps me going.
There are days where I’m juggling laundry, baseball games, class planning, client communication, marketing, and still trying to get a healthy meal on the table for my boys. But my “why” is bigger than the overwhelm. My kids are watching. I want them to know that their mom is strong. That she didn’t give up. That she showed up for herself and for them.
This journey hasn’t been seamless, but it’s been incredibly meaningful. I’m proud of every inch of the ground I’ve covered so far and endlessly grateful for those that have lent a hand and an ear along the way.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At Dripping Sweat, we believe real life is why you work out.
We’re not here to chase six-packs or compare ourselves to filtered images of rock-solid models. One of my biggest frustrations with the fitness industry is how often it promotes unrealistic body standards. I don’t work out to shrink or punish my body. I exercise so I can live. To keep up with my kids. To meet my grandkids someday. To play baseball in the yard, to dance, to load up the car for a trip… to experience a full life without pain or limitation.
Dripping Sweat offers group fitness classes built for longevity and functional strength. Whether you’re picking up a dumbbell for the first time, looking for something new in your fitness routine, or getting back into movement after years away, our focus is on strength, mobility, energy, and community. We offer a variety of class formats, including:
– Sweat Barre – a musically-driven format integrating low-impact strength training, cardio, and ballet/Pilates-inspired movement. No dance experience required.
– Sweat Strength – full-body, functional strength training. An express version is offered for those limited on time, but want to get in a workout and get on with the day.
– Sweat Start – a beginner-friendly strength class designed for women navigating perimenopause, working to protect bone density and build muscle without intimidation.
– Sweat Pilates (coming this fall) – a resistance band-based Pilates format that brings the benefits of reformer Pilates without the studio price tag.
In addition to classes inside the studio, you can often find me teaching out in the Dripping Springs community. Some of my favorite spots? Neighborhood pavilions in Headwaters and Belterra or the rooftop at Lucky Arrow Retreat. We use what we’ve got (maybe a chair instead of a barre), but everything else is the same: movement, music, smiles, and connection. That’s the power of group fitness.
At Dripping Sweat, movement isn’t just about exercise. It’s about sharing real moments with real people, whether it’s a friend, a neighbor, or your daughter. Time is limited, and these in-person experiences matter. We need to prioritize them.
For moms especially, this time is sacred. Your kids are watching. They see how you care for others, but they also need to see how you care for yourself. I talk often about the Oxygen Mask Theory. You have to secure your own mask first before helping those around you. That’s not selfish. That’s essential. And you’ll be an even better mom after you do.
At Dripping Sweat, we celebrate what your body can do. Every class offers options for all levels, so you can build strength and confidence at your own pace. It’s a space to feel supported, empowered, and connected. I’m so proud of the inclusive, heart-filled community we’re building. One where people show up not to change who they are, but to return to themselves and live life to the fullest.
What were you like growing up?
I grew up with strong family ties and a deep appreciation for hard work. I was a good student; driven, focused, and determined to make my parents proud. One of the biggest influences in my life was watching my father build his own auto repair business from the ground up. He believed fiercely in the American Dream, and both of my parents instilled in me the idea that if you work hard and stay committed, you can create a life you’re proud of. Because of them, I became the first in my family to go to college.
I was also a competitive dancer, which shaped so much of who I am. It taught me discipline, organization, and what it means to be part of a team striving toward a shared goal. Juggling long practices with schoolwork meant I had to manage my time early on and that structure has stayed with me throughout my life.
Eventually, family brought me to the Austin area. My brother was living here and being close to him and having my kids close to their cousins was important to me. That same pull toward connection and community has continued to guide me in everything I do, especially in building Dripping Sweat.
