Hi Maria, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Blacksmith Custom Builders was founded in 2016 in response to Fredericksburg’s affordable housing shortage, driven by it’s unique economy based on tourism.
The mission was to create affordable homes for local workers, including firefighters, teachers, and service industry professionals, offering stylish, modern homes that didn’t compromise on quality or budget.
Maria’s husband already had a remodeling company in Fredericksburg and was a skilled seasoned carpenter with expansive knowledge of each phase of home building. His background included 27 years of building production homes as a project manager, and it just made sense to start building homes using the ingenuity of ‘production’ combined with custom features and style to build a home that was both tasteful and fiscally responsible.
Blacksmith Homes remains 100% woman owned.
Maria has years of experience designing custom doors, door hardware and managing custom door & window companies. She’s owned three companies and possesses skills and techniques that allow her to work closely with clients inspiring a comfortable relaxed setting throughout the home building process.
At Blacksmith Custom Builders, transparency and fiscal responsibility are top priorities. Each home is meticulously estimated down to the dollar before a contract is signed, ensuring clients receive the best value with no unexpected budget surprises. Maria remains dedicated to the first-time home buyer experience as well as the seasoned home buyer and looks forward to working closely with each client to achieve the most beautiful, charming and practical ‘Dream Home’ possible.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Building during the Pandemic proved to be the challenge of the century as prices soared, supply chains broke and materials became difficult to source. Without the stability of market supplies, the normal flow and sequence of the building process became erratic and challenging. Blacksmith Homes dealt with it head on using a bulk-buying strategy coupled with hawkish fiscal responsibility. During that time Blacksmith Homes was able to finish beautiful homes for clients without compromise. Building custom homes over the years has had its ups and downs. Ultimately, it is very satisfying to work alongside eager clients and help them achieve the American Dream.

Blacksmith Homes is a niche custom home builder in the beautiful Texas Hill Country servicing Llano, Burnet, Gillespie, San Saba, Mason, Blanco and Lampasas counties. Specializing in traditional & Modern Farm, Cottage, Mid Century, Bungalow and German Hill Country aesthetics and design, working closely with our clients through the entire process of home building from start to finish. From financing to design, we help our clients stay within their budget while achieving the dream home they’ve always wanted.
We are proud of the fact that we stay in close contact throughout the projects helping with financing when needed and with the design and finish work. One of the services we provide is a working budget turning it into the contract price of the home so our clients know how much it will cost to build their dreams. We don’t ‘guess’ or give a square foot price to build a home. We know up front the cost to build and that’s something they take right to the bank when financing.
