Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Anallely Leon of tanglewood

We recently had the chance to connect with Anallely Leon and have shared our conversation below.

Anallely, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s the most surprising thing you’ve learned about your customers?
The most surprising thing I’ve learned from my customers is how deeply lashes connect to confidence and self expression. At first, I thought I was only applying extensions, but my clients showed me that every lash set is like a little spell of transformation. Some come in tired or weighed down, and by the time they leave, they glow like they’ve stepped out of their own fairytale.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Anallely, but many in Austin know me as Elly. I built my brand from the belief that lashes can be more than beauty, they can be a kind of magic. Over time, my clients inspired me to grow beyond the chair, and now I’m creating Lash Academia, a course that feels like stepping into a pink enchanted library where lash artists are trained like wizards, with their own potions, rituals, and tools. My story is about turning my passion into a legacy, building a brand that empowers women not only to look beautiful, but to feel unstoppable, as if they’re carrying a little bit of magic in every blink.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
Before the world told me who I had to be, I was a dreamer with glitter on my hands and endless ideas in my heart. I was a little girl who believed in magic, who could see entire worlds in books and colors in the sky. That part of me never truly left…it just got buried under expectations. Today, through Elly Lash and Lash Academia, I feel like I’m finally bringing her back to life. I’ve returned to the girl who believed she could create something enchanting out of nothing, and that’s who guides me now.

What have been the defining wounds of your life—and how have you healed them?
The defining wounds in my life have been the ones that made me feel small-
“My wounds became my art, and my art became my legacy.”

Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
I am committed to building Lash Academia not just as a course, but as a legacy. No matter how long it takes, I will create a space where lash artists can step into something that feels bigger than technique, something that feels like a secret society of beauty magicians. I believe in teaching not only how to master lashes, but how to build confidence, independence, and freedom through this craft. This isn’t a quick project, it’s a lifelong commitment to leaving behind a library of magic for the next generation of artists, so that long after I’ve put down my tweezers, the spells of Elly Lash will live on.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. What light inside you have you been dimming?
The light I’ve been dimming is my voice…the part of me that knows I have wisdom, creativity, and magic to share beyond the lash chair. For so long, I kept myself small, thinking I had to just work quietly, survive, and not take up too much space. But the truth is, my light has always been bigger than that. It’s the light of a teacher, a creator, and a legacy builder. I’m learning to let it shine fully through Elly Lash and Lash Academia, because when I stop dimming my light, I give others permission to let theirs shine too
