Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Avery Miller of Round Rock

Avery Miller shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Avery, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: Who are you learning from right now?
My children.

Watching them grow reminds me how quickly time moves. Their little milestones, their curiosity, their joy in the simplest things. It is teaching me to slow down, to savor the in-between moments, and to resist the urge to always be busy. I used to think rest was something you earned after productivity, but I’m learning it needs to be built into the rhythm of life. Creating space to breathe has made me a better artist, a more present mother, and a more grounded human.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
A.Curtis Creations offers live wedding and event paintings that transform once-in-a-lifetime moments into lasting works of art. More than just a painting, it’s an experience, a one-of-a-kind performance that brings a sense of elegance, creativity, and emotion to your special day. Guests are mesmerized watching the artwork come to life in real time, and couples are left with a personal heirloom that reflects the heart of their celebration. From the first dance to quiet candid moments, my goal is to create pieces that don’t just document, they elevate. I believe that art has the power to make your event unforgettable, not only for you, but for everyone who witnesses it.

Okay, so here’s a deep one: What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The perfectionist in me — the Type A student who needed straight A’s and a five-year plan. This girl served me well in my early years. She gave me discipline, drive, and the ability to create beauty with precision. But now, as a mother and an artist, I’m learning to release her grip. Life and art are rarely linear. The most meaningful moments are often unplanned, imperfect, and wonderfully human. I’m finding freedom in flow, grace in the mess, and a deeper kind of beauty when I allow space for the unexpected.

What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me that we’re all human. We are messy, fragile, and carrying more than we often show. Success can sometimes make you feel untouchable, but struggle reminds you of your shared humanity. That awareness has changed the way I treat people- with more empathy, more patience, and more genuine connection. It’s made me a better listener, a better artist, and someone who shows up with compassion, whether I’m serving a client, painting a live event, or simply having a conversation. You can’t fake that kind of depth – you earn it in the quiet, hard places

So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What are the biggest lies your industry tells itself?
That bigger is always better and that a wedding’s value is measured by how elaborate it looks, rather than how deeply it’s felt. The industry sometimes prioritizes perfection over presence, aesthetics over authenticity. But the truth is, the most memorable weddings aren’t the most extravagant, they’re the most personal. When couples feel seen, when their story is woven into the details, that’s what makes the day unforgettable. Beauty matters, but meaning matters more.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What pain do you resist facing directly?
The quiet ache of choosing between two things I love – my work and my children. I’m deeply grateful to do something that lights me up creatively, but every time I step away to paint, there’s a part of me that wonders what I’m missing back home – a milestone, a moment, a sleepy snuggle. And yet, I know I’m also showing them what it looks like to pursue purpose with heart. Holding both, the joy of creating and the longing for presence, is beautiful, but it’s also hard. That tension never fully goes away, and maybe that’s okay
