Today we’d like to introduce you to Kierston “KB” Brown.
Hi Kierston “KB”, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m a born-and-raised East Austin girl who’s been hosting and emceeing since high school and planning events since college. After graduating from Sam Houston State with a business degree, I worked everywhere from FEMA to the Texas State Government — but I’ve always been a “professional side quester” at heart. Now I’m all in on my creative path, hosting ingles events with the Jigsaw Dating app, running Kultivated Kloset, my plus-size thrift brand, and Sprinkl’d & Charm’d, my loc adornment business, while also creating content and serving on the boards of Back Outside and Girls’ Night Austin. My journey is about blending authenticity, creativity, and community to make an impact in the city I love.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road hasn’t always been smooth, but I see the challenges as part of the growth. One of the biggest has been navigating this journey as a single parent while also choosing a path that doesn’t always align with society’s expectations. There’s a lot of pressure to stay in a traditional nine to five role or follow the “safe” route, but I’ve felt called to move differently. Betting on yourself comes with uncertainty. The not always knowing when income will be steady or if partnerships will materialize, but it also comes with freedom and fulfillment. Even in those moments of doubt, I trust my resilience and my ability to make things happen. I truly believe I can accomplish anything I set my mind to, and that belief keeps me grounded and motivated no matter the challenge.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My work spans across fashion, beauty, and community, but at the core, it’s all about creativity and connection. I started Kultivated Kloset, an exclusively plus-size thrift, because I saw how limited the options are for plus-size women in the thrifting space. With sustainable fashion becoming more important, I wanted to create a place where plus-size women could shop affordably while also feeling seen and included. I also run Sprinkl’d & Charm’d, my loc adornment business, where I install sprinkles and design custom charms that add an extra touch of beauty and personality to people’s hair. Beyond my businesses, I serve as Collaboration Coordinator for Girls’ Night Austin, a growing social club that helps women across the city connect through fun events and partnerships with local businesses. I also recently became the Artist and Program Chair for Back Outside, a community-based organization focused on empowering Austin youth, especially Black and Brown youth in East Austin, by exposing them to creative outlets and mentorship opportunities. I also host regular singles events with the Jigsaw Dating app, such as speed dating and arcade nights, which has been one of my favorite side quests to date. Altogether, my work reflects both my passion for self-expression and my commitment to building spaces where people feel celebrated.
I’m most proud of being able to use my own creative talents and skills to pour into others and encourage them to see that there isn’t just one path to success. Success looks different for everyone depending on their strengths, passions, and communities, and I love being an example of how you can build a life that reflects who you truly are. What sets me apart is that there’s simply no other KB. I look different, I sound different, and I carry a presence and energy that’s uniquely mine. I bring that individuality into every room I walk into, and I think that authenticity is what makes me a true hidden gem.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is living a life with no regrets. When I get to the end of my journey, I want to know that I fully embraced every opportunity, that I didn’t hold myself back, and that I gave my daughter the life she deserves. Just as importantly, I want to set an example for her. Truly showing what it looks like to truly love yourself, bet on yourself, and take care of not only yourself but also your community. For me, that’s the ultimate measure of a life well lived.
